Stephen Carpenter Signature Guitars | Studio Gears

Recording heavy, low-tuned guitar is a challenge of definition, and this series is built for it. The Stephen Carpenter lineup of SC-607B, SC-608B, SCT-607B and ESP Stef B-8 uses baritone-scale 7- and 8-string designs. The extra scale length helps low notes keep their pitch and clarity, which gives you cleaner tracks to work with when tuning far below standard.

The Fishman Fluence Stephen Carpenter pickups define the tone going to tape. They are voiced for the low-register riffs of Deftones-style alternative metal and other heavy genres, so they are a strong starting point for producers building thick rhythm tracks and layered parts. The T-style SCT-607B adds a different body shape for those who want a change of feel in the session.

For a home studio, the ESP LTD models are an approachable way to add a dedicated baritone voice, while the ESP Stef B-8 is the premium choice for an extended-range centerpiece. Studio Gears carries the series across a wide price spread. See what is available below.

Stephen Carpenter Signature Guitars (ESP & LTD) - frequently asked questions

What guitars are in the Stephen Carpenter signature series?

The series is built around baritone-scale 7- and 8-string guitars: the SC-607B, the SC-608B, the T-style SCT-607B and the ESP Stef B-8. They are designed for the Deftones guitarist's heavy, down-tuned playing, and finishes include black, magenta metallic and yellow.

Are these guitars good for down-tuned alternative metal and nu-metal?

Yes, that is what they are made for. The baritone scale gives extra string length and a sturdy build, which helps keep low notes defined instead of floppy. Fishman Fluence Stephen Carpenter pickups suit riff-driven, low-register styles like alternative metal, nu-metal and other heavy genres.

What is the difference between the ESP LTD models and the ESP Stef B-8?

The tiers split along brand lines. ESP LTD models such as the SC-607B and SCT-607B sit at the more accessible end of the range, while the ESP-branded Stef B-8, an 8-string baritone, sits at the top. B-Stock units are sometimes available as open-box, discounted and fully covered options. No left-handed models are currently listed.
