Description
EMG 60-7H Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Gold
The EMG 60-7H delivers the legendary active humbucker character that defined modern metal and progressive tones, scaled for seven-string instruments. This gold-finished pickup combines EMG's proven circuit design with extended shaft length to accommodate deeper pickup cavities, maintaining full output and clarity across the extended low-B register for focused tracking and mixing.
Recording & Mix Integration
As an active humbucker, this pickup requires a battery and EMG's preamp circuit to operate, providing consistent output, noise rejection, and articulate midrange punch that cuts through dense mixes without requiring heavy post-production compression or EQ correction. The 60-7H captures definition with sustain intact, translating equally well to clean articulation and high-gain saturation on seven-string guitars—maintaining usable tone across a wide range of session applications and production contexts.
Installation & Compatibility
The long shaft construction accommodates seven-string pickup cavities without compromising magnetic field strength or coil configuration. Gold finish adds visual distinction while the standard EMG casing ensures durability and drop-in compatibility with properly routed seven-string instruments, streamlining the installation process in your studio workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any additional electronics to use this pickup?
Yes, the EMG 60-7H is an active pickup and requires a 9V battery and EMG preamp circuit to operate. It cannot function as a passive pickup without these components.
What makes the long shaft design important for seven-string guitars?
Seven-string pickup cavities are typically routed deeper than standard six-string cavities. The extended long shaft accommodates this depth while maintaining full magnetic field strength and output, ensuring the pickup delivers consistent tone without modification.
Is this pickup suitable for jazz or blues?
No, the EMG 60-7H is engineered specifically for metal, progressive, and extended-range applications. Its tight low end, high output, and aggressive midrange character are designed for high-gain and dense mix environments, not the warm, dynamic response jazz and blues players typically seek.
Will this pickup fit any seven-string guitar?
The EMG 60-7H is designed for seven-string instruments with standard EMG mounting specifications and properly routed pickup cavities. Verify that your guitar's cavity dimensions and routing match EMG's standard long-shaft specifications before purchasing.
How does the EMG 60-7H compare to passive seven-string pickups?
Active humbuckers like the 60-7H deliver consistent output, lower noise, and articulate midrange punch that cuts through dense mixes—advantages that come with the trade-off of requiring a battery and preamp circuit. Passive pickups offer simplicity but less noise rejection and output consistency.
