Frequently asked questions
Will the 58X work in a seven-string guitar?
The 58X is not seven-string specific; it's designed for standard or non-standard potentiometer spacing on conventional guitars. The 60-7H is engineered specifically for seven-string cavities and the extended low-B register.
What's the real difference between these active preamps?
The 60-7H uses EMG's standard proven circuit tuned for balanced articulation and sustain on extended-range instruments. The 58X uses the X Series preamp architecture, which provides more headroom and touch sensitivity for responsive dynamics and nuanced playing feel.
How much easier is the 58X to install?
The 58X includes a solderless installation system that requires no soldering. The 60-7H requires standard wiring and battery circuit integration typical of active pickups.
Are both pickups noise-free?
Yes—both are active humbuckers powered by 9V batteries, providing noise rejection and consistent output across all playing dynamics. The 58X emphasizes noise-free performance as a key feature.
