Description

JBL 4732-M/HF Mid-High Section Only – Cinema ScreenArray

The JBL 4732-M/HF is the upper mid-high frequency section of JBL's professional three-way ScreenArray cinema loudspeaker system. This fully assembled cabinet delivers the midrange and high-frequency output required for premiere cinema installations, studio production, and post-production facilities where precise directivity and consistent coverage are non-negotiable. Note: this is the upper cabinet only; the low-frequency section (JBL 4739, sold separately) is required to complete a functional 4732 system.

Acoustic Design & Coverage

The 4732-M/HF achieves a 107 dB SPL sensitivity (or 109 dB MF / 115 dB HF in tri-amplified mode) through its carefully matched driver array: four 165H 6.5-inch midrange transducers paired with a single 2432H 3-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver. Horizontal coverage spans 90 degrees with vertical patterns of 20 degrees up and 30 degrees down, ensuring controlled dispersion across the theater or control room without lobing or hot spots in the listening plane.

Power Handling & Impedance Configuration

This section handles 200 W AES (100-hour) with a 400 W recommended amplifier rating for the midrange, while high-frequency handling is rated 85 W AES with 200 W recommended—typical for compression driver protection. The 4 ohm nominal impedance (or 4 ohm MF / 8 ohm HF in tri-amp mode) integrates seamlessly into both bi-amplified and tri-amplified configurations, allowing flexible routing through external crossovers at 250 Hz (bi-amp) or 250 Hz and 1.2 kHz (tri-amp).

Key Features

  • Four 165H 165 mm (6.5 in) midrange drivers with 38 mm (1.5 in) voice coils
  • One 2432H 75 mm (3 in) titanium diaphragm compression driver with 38 mm (1.5 in) exit
  • Free-field sensitivity 107 dB SPL at 2.83 V / 1 m (tri-amp: MF 109 dB, HF 115 dB)
  • Nominal impedance 4 ohms (tri-amp: MF 4 ohms, HF 8 ohms)
  • Power handling 200 W AES 100-hour, 400 W recommended amplifier (tri-amp: MF 200 W / 400 W, HF 85 W / 200 W)
  • Horizontal coverage 90 degrees; vertical coverage 20 degrees up / 30 degrees down
  • Dimensions 1544 mm H × 762 mm W × 450 mm D (60.8 × 30 × 17.75 in)
  • Designed for bi-amplified (4732) or tri-amplified (4732-T) operation
  • Part of the complete 4732 ScreenArray system (frequency range 30 Hz – 20 kHz when paired with 4739 LF section)
  • Professional cinema and studio-grade construction from JBL Professional (Harman Cinema)

Studio-grade precision driver engineering and cinema-spec directional control deliver transparent midrange clarity and articulate high-frequency response across your defined listening area, essential for accurate monitoring and critical mix decisions in production and post-production work.

At a Glance

The JBL 4732-M/HF mid-high section delivers studio-grade midrange precision and articulate highs for post-production monitoring, mastering, and Dolby Cinema-certified mixing environments. Mixing and mastering engineers rely on its 4 ohm / 8 ohm tri-amp flexibility, flat directional response, and 107–115 dB SPL sensitivity to catch every detail during critical listening sessions and theatrical mixes. Add this to your monitoring chain when you need cinema-reference transparency that reveals mix flaws without coloration, and the ability to tune coverage to your control room's geometry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in this purchase, and do I need anything else?

You are purchasing the mid-high cabinet only (M/HF section). To create a complete 4732 ScreenArray system covering 30 Hz–20 kHz, you must purchase the JBL 4739 low-frequency section separately. This cabinet works only as part of the full three-way array.

Can I use this in a bi-amplified or tri-amplified setup?

Yes, this section supports both. In bi-amp mode, it runs as a single 4 ohm load with a 250 Hz crossover. In tri-amp mode, it splits into separate 4 ohm midrange and 8 ohm high-frequency channels with crossovers at 250 Hz and 1.2 kHz, giving you precise amp assignment and protection for the compression driver.

What directional coverage does this cabinet provide?

Horizontal coverage spans 90 degrees with vertical patterns of 20 degrees up and 30 degrees down, ensuring consistent output across a theater or control room without lobing or hot spots. This controlled directivity is engineered for cinema-spec applications where uniform coverage across a wide listening plane is essential.

How much power does this cabinet require?

The midrange section handles 200 W AES (100-hour continuous) with a recommended 400 W amplifier rating. The high-frequency compression driver is rated 85 W AES with a 200 W recommended amplifier. These ratings apply in tri-amp mode; bi-amp operation uses a single amp per the 4 ohm impedance.

What is the difference between this and a complete 4732 system?

This is the upper mid-high section only. The complete 4732 ScreenArray consists of this cabinet plus the separate 4739 low-frequency section, creating a full three-way system. JBL also offers the 4732-T tri-amplified variant, which is similar but configured for tri-amp operation out of the box.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. On this item that is roughly $238 less out the door than the same listed price at a national retailer or on a marketplace. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included. Some states ask buyers to self-report use tax on out-of-state purchases.
