Description

Sound & Tone

The compact New Yorker body keeps the voice focused and midrange-forward rather than boomy, while the solid Spruce top adds clarity and attack and the Black Walnut back and sides fill in warmth and sustain. The short 630mm scale and 42.5mm nut width make it easy to fingerpick with control, and the 12-inch radius board handles flatpicked lines and chord work just as comfortably, so it suits blues, folk, ragtime, singer-songwriter accompaniment and couch-side practice. Onboard TP-4TD electronics with three-band EQ and gain let you shape that same balanced tone for small-room gigs or recording without losing the guitar's natural character.

Takamine GY51E NAT New Yorker Guitar Natural Finish

The Takamine GY51E captures articulate, balanced tones with a responsive feel that encourages extended tracking sessions without fatigue. Its solid construction delivers warm, clear output across the full range with excellent sustain and note definition—essential qualities for layering parts and maintaining clarity in dense arrangements. The natural gloss finish reveals the wood grain while allowing the guitar's acoustic character to cut through without tonal coloration.

Tone & Recording Capability

Built with a solid Spruce top paired with Black Walnut back and sides, this guitar produces a balanced acoustic voice that works equally well for fingerpicking, strumming, and hybrid approaches in the mix. The onboard TP-4TD electronics include a built-in tuner, three-band EQ, and gain controls for direct recording to interface or console, making it straightforward to capture performances and blend acoustic layers with other instruments.

Playability & Build

The Mahogany neck with a Laurel fingerboard offers smooth action and comfortable fretting for precise playing during takes, while the 42.5mm nut width and 12-inch fingerboard radius support both fingerstyle and pick playing with consistent articulation. 21 frets provide range for melodic passages and transposition, and gold die-cast tuners with a synthetic bone nut ensure stable tuning across sessions and reliable hardware performance.

Bought this on sale in early December 2025. It is exactly what I was hoping for. I've owned a few guitars and loved them all, but this is perfect for what I do--sit on the couch and mess around. Good action and setup out of the box, warm and bright. Great volume without being overwhelming. This may be the last guitar I buy...
