Frequently Asked Questions
What position is this pickup designed for?
The SSL-5L is a left-position (neck or middle) configuration. Seymour Duncan makes position-specific pickups with slightly different magnetic characteristics optimized for each slot in a Stratocaster.
Will this pickup work for metal or high-gain styles?
The SSL-5L is voiced for rock, blues, and pop and is not recommended for metal or djent playing. If you need a single-coil capable of extreme gain, you will want to explore other Seymour Duncan models designed for that application.
What's included with the pickup?
The SSL-5L comes with a white Seymour Duncan logo cover and is ready to drop into a standard Strat left-position cavity. No additional hardware or wiring is included; you will need to solder it into your guitar's circuit.
How does the SSL-5L compare to vintage single-coils?
The SSL-5L uses custom overwound coils and hand-ground Alnico 5 magnets to deliver enhanced output and presence compared to vintage designs, while the staggered pole pieces and modern Forbon flatwork maintain clarity and even string response. It preserves single-coil character without the noise or feedback issues of older pickups, thanks to wax potting.
What output level should I expect?
At 13.3 kOhm DC resistance, the SSL-5L sits in the modern mid-output range—hotter than vintage Strat pickups but still responsive and clean, effective for both clean tones and driven applications without losing definition.
