Sound & Tone
Sound & Tone: The fretless rosewood board and flatwound strings give this five-string a smooth, singing attack with the mwah and vocal glide fretless players chase, while the 35" scale keeps the low B tight and clearly pitched. Mahogany with a bubinga top and neck-through construction lend warmth and long sustain, and the dual EMG 40HZ pickups running on an 18-volt 3-band active EQ add punch, headroom and wide tone-shaping range from the blend control. It suits fusion, jazz, gospel, R&B and modern progressive playing where expressive slides and a clean, articulate low end both matter.
Schecter Stiletto Studio-5 FL Electric Bass Honey Satin
The Stiletto Studio-5 FL captures articulate, expressive fretless bass tones through its thin 'C' neck profile and 35" extended scale, engineered for precise intonation and controlled fretless articulation in the recording environment. The neck-through construction with Ultra Access body contour ensures solid tonal sustain and upper-fret access during overdubs and session work, while the Honey Satin finish over mahogany and bubinga delivers a refined visual presentation. This instrument is built to deliver professional-grade fretless recordings with modern active electronics that cut clearly in the mix.
Playability & Construction
The thin 'C' neck measures .787" at the first fret and .866" at the 12th, paired with a 16" fretboard radius for comfortable lateral movement and intonation accuracy on the fretless rosewood board—critical for tracking pitch-accurate takes. Neck-through construction with Ultra Access maintains solid body contact and sustain while enabling access to higher positions for layered session parts, and the 35" scale provides extended range without compromising ergonomic comfort during long recording sessions.
Recording Tone & Electronics
Dual EMG 40HZ pickups with a 3-band active EQ and master volume/blend control deliver articulate, punchy response across the frequency spectrum—essential for achieving clarity and presence in a mix without overshadowing other instruments. The 18-volt active system with dual EMG configurations enables aggressive tone shaping and extended dynamic range, allowing you to dial in the perfect fretless character for your track or adjust quickly between session parts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this fretless bass suitable for a beginner or intermediate player?
The Stiletto Studio-5 FL is rated for intermediate to advanced players; fretless demands accurate intonation and ear training, so players should already be comfortable with finger placement and pitch control. The thin 'C' neck profile and fretless lines on rosewood support smooth, accurate playing, but starting on fretted bass first is recommended before committing to fretless.
What genres and styles is this bass built for?
This bass excels in studio sessions, jazz, progressive rock, and contemporary R&B where fretless expression and articulate dynamics matter. It is not optimized for punk or traditional blues, which typically favor simpler fretted platforms and different tonal priorities.
What's included with this bass?
The Stiletto Studio-5 FL ships with a set of Ernie Ball 5-string flatwound strings (number 2810) and features a Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut and Diamond Custom Bass bridge. It does not include a case or gig bag.
How does the 35-inch extended scale affect playability and tone?
The 35-inch scale provides deeper, punchier low-end response and cleaner upper-fret articulation, especially useful on a 5-string where low-B clarity is critical. Combined with the thin 'C' neck and Ultra Access body contour, it keeps the bass ergonomic and balanced for extended sessions without cramping your hand.
What kind of active electronics does this bass have?
The Stiletto Studio-5 FL uses an 18-volt active electronics system with dual EMG 40HZ pickups and a 3-band EQ, plus master volume and blend controls. This delivers extended dynamic range, aggressive tone-shaping, and the cutting presence needed to voice fretless expression clearly in a studio or live mix.
