Sound & Tone
The mahogany body and set mahogany neck give this eight-string a thick midrange foundation, while the ebony fretboard and 25.5"–27.5" multiscale keep the low strings tight and clearly pitched rather than muddy. Its Fishman Fluence Open Core Modern-8 bridge pickup delivers articulate, cutting highs over a controlled low end, and the 3-way voicing toggle lets you shift between distinct tonal characters without extra circuitry. It sits naturally in progressive metal and djent, handling percussive palm-muted riffing and extended-range chord voicings with equal definition.
Schecter PT-8 Multiscale Black Ops Electric Guitar
The PT-8 Multiscale Black Ops is engineered for studio tracking and session work requiring extended range and precision tuning stability. Its fanned fret design naturally optimizes string tension across all eight strings, allowing clean, articulate capture at the bridge pickup while maintaining balanced low-end response. The thin "C"-shaped neck and ultra-access set construction minimize hand fatigue during long recording takes, while 24 X-Jumbo frets enable fast, accurate intonation—critical for layering complex harmonic arrangements and progressive material that demands both clarity and expressive range.
Playability & Recording Stability
The mahogany body with satin black open pore finish pairs with a carbon-fiber-reinforced mahogany neck for tuning stability and consistent resonance across sessions. The multiscale design spans 25.5" to 27.5", optimizing string tension and intonation across the full range, while the 20" fretboard radius and Graph Tech Black Tusq nut at 56mm width ensure comfortable chord shapes and smooth string bending. Hardware includes Schecter locking tuners and a Hipshot 8 String Multiscale fixed bridge that maintains tuning stability during overdubs and reduces the need for tuning corrections between takes.
Tone & Signal Path
The Fishman Fluence Open Core Modern-8 bridge pickup captures articulate high-end detail with a deep, controlled low end—essential for sitting cleanly in mixes alongside rhythm guitars and bass without muddiness. Controls are minimal and intuitive: master volume paired with a 3-way voicing toggle switch allows fast tonal adjustments within a session without signal chain complexity, while metal O-ring knobs provide reliable tactile feedback and durability through repeated use.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the multiscale design beneficial for an 8-string guitar?
The fanned fret design spans 25.5" to 27.5" scale length, optimizing string tension and intonation across all eight strings so lower strings stay tight and articulate without excessive fret buzz or muddy tone. The natural contour also fits your hand ergonomically during extended playing sessions.
Is this guitar suitable for jazz or blues playing?
No—this instrument is purpose-built for progressive metal and djent styles. Its extended range, aggressive pickup voicing, and ergonomic design are optimized for complex harmonic work and tight riffing in modern metal contexts rather than blues or jazz tonal aesthetics.
What pickup does it come with and can I shape the tone easily?
It features a Fishman Fluence Open Core Modern-8 bridge pickup with a straightforward control scheme: master volume and a 3-way voicing toggle switch for fast tonal shaping without diving into menus. This setup delivers articulate highs and deep, controlled lows ideal for progressive metal and djent.
What neck shape and fretboard specifications should I expect?
The thin C-shaped neck measures 20mm at the 1st fret and 22mm at the 12th fret, paired with an ebony fretboard, 24 X-Jumbo stainless steel frets, 20" fretboard radius, and a Graph Tech Black Tusq nut at 56mm width. These specs ensure comfortable chord shapes, smooth bending, and ultra-access to upper frets.
How stable is the tuning under aggressive playing?
Schecter locking tuners and a Hipshot 8 String multiscale fixed bridge maintain tuning stability even during aggressive play and complex harmonic work. The carbon-fiber-reinforced mahogany neck also provides structural stability to support the extended range.
