What makes the AAX Air different from other 8" splash cymbals?

The AAX Air combines Sabian's AAX hammering and lathing with six 3/4" diameter holes and extra-thin B20 bronze to deliver one of the fastest splash cymbals available. It prioritizes quick attack and rapid decay over sustain, ensuring bright articulation without muddiness in dense arrangements.

Is this splash suitable for jazz or blues playing?

No. The AAX Air Splash is designed for rock, metal, progressive, hard rock, and punk—styles that demand fast, articulate definition. Its quick decay and minimal sustain make it less suited to the warmer, sustained tones preferred in jazz and blues contexts.

How much effort does it take to play this cymbal?

The extra-thin weight class and hole-reduced design minimize playing effort, so you can achieve full projection and response with lighter touches. This makes it ideal for drummers who want control and speed without muscular strain.

What skill level is required to get the best from this splash?

This cymbal is voiced for intermediate, advanced, and professional drummers. Its fast response and tight character reward precise technique and work best in styles where articulate accent work is essential.

Sabian 8" AAX Air Splash

The 8" AAX Air Splash is engineered to cut through dense mix textures with articulate, defined accents and punctuation. Its minimal weight and responsive design make it an ideal session tool for tight, controlled articulation in recording situations where clarity and quick transient response define the take. This splash excels as a cutting accent cymbal, offering quick attack and fast decay that sits precisely in the mix without masking kick or snare definition.

Sound Character & Recording Presence

The bright, articulate voice of this splash comes from AAX hammering and lathing applied to a raw bell, producing fast transient response ideal for tight, controlled articulation. Quick attack and decay characteristics make it perfect for accents, crashes, and tight musical punctuation where clarity matters in playback and overdub scenarios.

Construction & Studio Versatility

Crafted from B20 bronze and engineered as extra thin and lightweight, this cymbal demands minimal effort to play while maintaining projection and clarity in recording. The six strategically placed 3/4" diameter holes reduce mass further while contributing to its fast decay profile, allowing for quick layering of cymbal articulations without buildup in the DAW.
