SABIAN 20" Artisan Traditional Sym Medium Light Single
This 20" Artisan Traditional Symphonic cymbal captures a responsive, articulate transient under the stick with controlled decay that tracks cleanly in multitrack and ensemble recording contexts. The Medium Light weight classification balances musical complexity and workability—light enough to record with dynamic nuance, heavy enough to deliver tonal authority without requiring aggressive playing. Hand-crafted construction ensures each cymbal carries the tonal individuality SABIAN's Artisan series is known for, translating to distinctive character across drum overhead and room mic chains.
Tone & Sustain for Recording
The B20 Bronze composition paired with high-density hand hammering produces a rich, warm, musically complex voice with deliberately short sustain. In the mix, this character excels for transparent cymbal rolls, sensitive dynamic control, and ensemble textures where quick decay prevents wash and maintains clarity across drum overhead and full-kit recordings.
Construction & Design
Built with traditional hand-hammering techniques combined with modern jumbo-peen dimpling on the underside, this cymbal balances acoustic craft with refined manufacturing precision. The result is a tonally sophisticated instrument that responds to nuanced stick articulation while maintaining the durability expected from SABIAN's professional-grade offerings in high-demand session and production work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this cymbal suitable for ensemble and orchestral work?
The short, controlled sustain and deliberately complex harmonic character allow it to blend transparently in group settings without muddying other instruments. The Medium Light weight also makes rapid articulation responsive and precise, which is essential for orchestral rolls and sensitive dynamic control in ensemble contexts.
Is this cymbal appropriate for rock, metal, or high-volume live sound?
No—this cymbal is not designed for heavy rock or metal. Its warm tone, short sustain, and Medium Light weight are optimized for orchestral and chamber music where nuance and blend are priorities, not projection and durability under sustained high-impact playing.
What is the construction difference between this hand-hammered cymbal and mass-produced versions?
This cymbal uses traditional high-density hand-hammering paired with modern jumbo-peen dimpling on the underside, which creates tonal individuality and responsive feel under the stick. Mass-produced cymbals lack this level of acoustic craftsmanship and personalized voice.
What genres and playing contexts is this cymbal best suited for?
This cymbal excels in orchestral, chamber music, jazz ensemble work, and other refined small-group contexts where quick decay, harmonic complexity, and clear articulation are valued over volume and projection.
Is this a pair or a single cymbal?
This is a single 20" cymbal, not a pair. It is Model A2056 with a Medium Light weight classification and B20 Bronze composition.
