Description
Sound & Tone
The mahogany body with quilted maple top and set-thru neck gives this single-cut a warm, sustaining foundation with clear note definition, while the 24.75" scale keeps string tension relaxed and thickens the midrange. The EMG 81 at the bridge brings tight, articulate high-end bite for high-gain rhythm and lead work, and the EMG 85 at the neck rounds things out with fuller, warmer mids for solos and cleaner passages. It suits classic rock, hard rock and metal players who want consistent, low-noise active output on stage or in the studio, with dual volumes and a three-way toggle for quick shifts between voices.
ESP LTD EC-400 QM See Thru Black Sunburst
The EC-400 QM captures thick, articulate tones through its set-thru mahogany construction and active EMG pickup pairing—a solid tracking platform for hard rock, metal, and alternative sessions. The thin U neck profile and 24.75" scale length support both aggressive lead work and controlled rhythm playing, while the figured quilted maple top in See Thru Black Sunburst delivers visual character in video content or onstage use. Set-thru design ensures the sustain and note separation needed for punch-heavy mixes, backed by straightforward controls that let the pickups and recording chain do the work.
Recording & Performance
Set-thru construction anchors the neck deep into the body, yielding extended sustain and clear note articulation—critical for layered tracking and long-tail amp captures. The thin U profile three-piece mahogany neck sits naturally under the hand across extended sessions, while the 350mm radius rosewood fingerboard and 22 extra-jumbo frets support clean articulation from open voicings through high-register lead passes without finger fatigue.
Pickup & Tone Control
The EMG 81 bridge and EMG 85 neck configuration delivers separate tonal palettes: the 81 drives punch and clarity on palm-muted riffs and solos, while the 85 rounds out rhythm tones with warm, articulate midrange. Dual volume controls, master tone, and a three-way toggle allow quick switching between pickup blends without reaching for outboard gear, streamlining session workflow and maintaining consistent output levels across tracking takes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What skill level is this guitar designed for?
The EC-400QM suits intermediate, advanced, and professional players. The thin U-profile neck and extra-jumbo frets are forgiving for faster lead work and open voicings alike, while the set-thru construction and active electronics deliver the tonal control and response that experienced players expect.
What genres and playing styles does it handle best?
This guitar excels in hard rock, metal, and studio sessions where high-gain capability and note definition matter most. The EMG 81/85 active pairing and responsive sustain make it a poor fit for jazz or folk applications, which typically demand warmer, less aggressive voicings.
How does the set-thru neck construction affect playability and tone?
Set-thru anchors the neck deep into the body, which anchors sustain and note definition across the full range without adding weight or bulk. The thin U profile and 350mm rosewood fingerboard combine with this construction to deliver comfort during extended sessions while maintaining the warmth and responsiveness the mahogany body provides.
What pickups does it have, and how do they sound?
The guitar features an EMG 81 active bridge pickup for articulate high-end clarity and an EMG 85 active neck pickup for warm mids, offering tonal versatility across clean and high-gain applications. Dual volume controls, a master tone, and a three-way toggle switch keep output shaping simple and hands-on.
What hardware and electronics are included?
The EC-400QM ships with a TOM-style bridge and tailpiece, LTD locking tuners, and black hardware throughout. The active EMG electronics and straightforward controls are hardened for both studio and touring use.
