EMG TBP Active Thunderbird Bass Pickup in Black

EMG TBP Active Thunderbird Bass Pickup in Black

The EMG TBP is a compact active pickup engineered specifically for Thunderbird bass installations, delivering tight, controlled signal with minimal noise floor. Its low-profile form factor and ceramic magnet design integrate seamlessly into the classic Thunderbird body without requiring extensive modifications. In the studio, this pickup captures clarity and consistency across the frequency spectrum, translating to tracks that sit cleanly in dense mixes without competing for headroom.

Pickup Design & Construction

Built with two offset coils and an active hum-canceling design, the TBP eliminates 60 Hz hum that typically plagues passive systems—critical for recording sessions where noise floor directly impacts final mix quality. The ceramic magnet provides a bright, articulate response ideal for capturing definition in low-end tracking, while the 4-wire wiring configuration allows flexible wiring options for various control schemes and session setups.

Tone & Recording Performance

The 20 mV active output delivers a hot, controlled signal with an -106 dB noise floor at 60 Hz, ensuring clean amplification and negligible self-noise during overdubs and DI recording. Frequency response spans 20 Hz–20 kHz with a 3.20 kHz resonant peak that emphasizes midrange articulation and definition—particularly useful for cutting through in dense arrangements or standing alone in stripped-down tracks. The 10 kOhm impedance and 80 microamp current draw at 9V yield exceptional battery efficiency, rated for 3000 hours of operation per battery set, keeping downtime minimal during extended studio sessions.
