Description
EMG Super 77 Neck Long Shaft Retro Active Humbucker Pickup in Zebra
The EMG Super 77 Neck captures articulate, punchy midrange character with the installation advantage of a long shaft design that accommodates deeper guitar routes without modification. This retro active humbucker combines ceramic magnet warmth with controlled output, delivering balanced clarity and traditional humbucker depth across tracking and mixing sessions.
Tone & Output Performance
A resonant frequency of 3.12 kHz centers the pickup's response in the vocal midrange, ideal for cutting through dense mixes while maintaining articulate detail. Single-string output of 4.25V and maximum strum output of 8.0V provide responsive dynamics that capture playing nuance without excessive noise floor. The -98 dB noise floor ensures clean articulation across all playing techniques and recording levels, and 3.1 kΩ output impedance integrates seamlessly with standard preamps and audio interfaces.
Electronics & Power Requirements
This active pickup operates at 350 microamps at 9V, delivering approximately 715 hours of battery life per charge and supporting a maximum supply voltage of 27 volts DC. The included solderless plug-on preamp eliminates traditional wiring complexity for faster setup and reduced studio downtime. The complete component set provides everything needed for installation: dual 25K volume and tone potentiometers, battery bus, stereo output jack, and all necessary interconnection cables.

How does this compare to passive humbuckers in terms of output and noise?
The Super 77 Neck combines active circuitry with controlled output (4.25V single-string, 8.0V maximum strum) and an extremely low noise floor of -98 dB, delivering clarity and articulation that surpasses passive designs while maintaining warm ceramic magnet character.
What is included in the box, and is soldering required for installation?
The complete kit includes the pickup, solderless plug-on preamp, dual 25K volume pots, dual 25K tone pots, battery bus, stereo output jack, and all interconnection cables—no soldering required for installation.
What genres and playing styles is this pickup best suited for?
