Is this pickup suitable for 7-string guitars with drop tunings?

Yes. The EMG Super 77-7B is purpose-built for extended-range 7-string work in drop tunings and high-gain genres. Its ceramic magnet construction and active preamp deliver the headroom and articulate string separation needed to maintain definition on lower-tuned strings even under heavy distortion.

What's included in the installation package?

The set includes two pickup cables, four connect cables, an output cable, a battery cable, and matched 25K volume and tone potentiometers. The solderless system eliminates the need for traditional soldering during installation.

How long does the battery last?

The preamp draws 350 mA at 9V and delivers approximately 1400 hours of battery life per set. It also supports supply voltages up to 27V DC if you run a higher-voltage rail in your rig.

How does the EMG Super 77-7B compare to passive humbucker pickups?

The active preamp circuitry provides higher output (neck 4.25V, bridge 4V, peaking at 8V), a much lower noise floor (–98 dB neck, –96 dB bridge), and greater headroom than traditional passive designs, while the ceramic magnet and copper-wound coils preserve articulation and string separation in high-gain contexts.

Will this pickup fit my 7-string guitar?

The pickup uses standard Tune-O-Matic spacing (49mm). Verify your guitar's pickup cavity dimensions and mounting standard match EMG's specification before purchase.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included. Some states ask buyers to self-report use tax on out-of-state purchases.

EMG Super 77-7B 7-String Retro Active Humbucker Pickup in Black

The EMG Super 77-7B captures aggressive transients and harmonic clarity essential for 7-string recording and mixing work in high-gain sessions. This ceramic-magnet humbucker merges passive tone characteristics with active preamp response, delivering articulate string separation that cuts through dense mixes and maintains definition under heavy distortion. The solderless installation integrates seamlessly into studio rigs without rewiring complexity.

Tone & Electronics

Low-impedance active circuitry yields a neck output of 4.25 V and bridge output of 4 V, with maximum peaks hitting 8 V during hard strikes—essential headroom for capturing dynamic performances. The ceramic magnet construction with copper-wound passive coils and ceramic pole pieces produces focused, punchy midrange that locks into rhythm tracks and projects lead notes through the frequency spectrum. Noise floor specs of –98 dB (neck) and –96 dB (bridge) ensure transparent recording across the extended 7-string range without unwanted artifacts.

Power & Installation

The preamp consumes 350 mA at 9V and runs 1400 hours per battery set, minimizing mid-session power changes during tracking sessions. The system supports supply voltages up to 27 V DC, ideal for studios running higher-rail power supplies for increased headroom and dynamic range. The solderless system includes two pickup cables, four connect cables, output cable, battery cable, and matched 25K volume and tone potentiometers, enabling rapid installation without soldering downtime.
