Description
EMG SLVX Single-Coil Active Pickup in White
The EMG SLVX captures articulate, punchy single-coil response with the clarity and headroom demanded by modern recording. Developed in collaboration with Steve Lukather of Toto, this pickup combines vintage Alnico V character with enhanced output and controlled noise—delivering studio-grade definition that translates across tracking, overdubs, and final mixes without losing responsiveness to playing dynamics.
Tone & Electronics
The SLVX uses flat Alnico V pole pieces under a closed cap and features an elevated winding count compared to the original SLV, delivering a fatter, more focused midrange that sits well in dense arrangements. The X-Series Preamp provides increased headroom and punch over earlier EMG active designs, ensuring transparent capture of pick articulation and finger dynamics while maintaining low noise across the frequency spectrum—critical for layered production work and detailed mixing.
Recording Setup & Workflow
This is a solderless installation pickup that operates on a single 9V battery, simplifying instrument swaps and eliminating traditional wiring complications during session changes. The white finish integrates cleanly into Stratocaster-style aesthetics while the active circuit ensures consistent output and tonal integrity across cable runs, interface inputs, and different recording chain configurations—essential for maintaining sonic continuity across multiple tracking sessions.

No. The SLVX is voiced for pop, rock, and funk and emphasizes articulate, punchy response with enhanced midrange character rather than the high-gain saturation metal styles demand.
How does the SLVX compare to the original EMG SLV?
The SLVX features an elevated winding count for a fatter, more focused midrange, plus an upgraded X-Series active preamp that delivers increased headroom and punch compared to earlier EMG active designs, while maintaining the vintage Alnico V character.
What type of installation does this require?
