Description
EMG Robert Trujillo Rip Tide Active Single Coil Pickup
The EMG Robert Trujillo Rip Tide set captures the aggressive, articulate single-coil character that defined Trujillo's tone across multiple decades of recording. These active J-style pickups respond with precision to pick attack and finger dynamics, translating every nuance of performance into tight, defined output without the noise floor of passive designs. Built for engineers tracking players who demand clarity and punch in both clean and heavily overdriven contexts.
Tone & Output Characteristics
The ceramic radiused bar magnets and 3.95 kHz resonant frequency produce a focused midrange with articulate transients—ideal for lead layers that cut through the mix and defined rhythm parts that sit cleanly in stereo sessions. Output runs at 2.00V string / 4.50V thump with an exceptionally low noise floor of -101 dB at 60 Hz, ensuring transparent amplification even at high gain tracking without hum or unwanted artifacts that complicate mixing.
Installation & Power
These pickups employ solderless 2-wire installation with the included solderless wiring harness, eliminating the need for a soldering iron and reducing session setup time significantly. Operating at 80 microamps current draw, a single 9V battery delivers approximately 1000 hours of battery life, with support for supply voltages up to 27V DC for enhanced headroom and output when tracking demanding material.

At a Glance
The EMG Robert Trujello Rip Tide delivers an articulate, focused single-coil character ideal for recording aggressive rock, metal, and fusion where clarity and punch matter—especially in heavily overdriven or heavily layered tracks. Active electronics with a -101 dB noise floor ensure clean amplification during tracking and overdubs without hum or artifacts, even when pushing gain in the mix. Battery power (solderless 2-wire install) eliminates studio wiring hassle and gives you flexibility to test tone quickly during sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What genres and playing styles are these pickups best suited for?
The Rip Tide set is designed for metal, hard rock, funk, and fusion. The articulate transients and focused midrange excel at cut-through lead work and defined rhythm playing, but are less ideal for jazz or traditional blues where warmer, darker voicings are preferred.
How long does a 9V battery last, and can I use a higher voltage?
A single 9V battery provides approximately 1000 hours of playing time at 80 microamps current draw. The pickups support supply voltages up to 27V DC for enhanced headroom and output if you want to experiment with higher power.
Do I need to solder these pickups, and what comes in the box?
No soldering required. The set includes solderless 2-wire installation with a harness pre-assembled, so you can wire them into your guitar without a soldering iron. The package includes both neck and bridge pickups.
What output and noise characteristics should I expect?
Output is 2.00V string and 4.50V thump mode with a noise floor of -101 dB at 60 Hz, delivering clean amplification at high gain without hum or unwanted artifacts. The ceramic radiused bar magnets and 3.95 kHz resonant frequency create a focused midrange with articulate transients.
What are the physical dimensions, and will they fit my guitar?
The neck pickup measures 3.59 inches by 0.73 inches, and the bridge pickup measures 3.7 inches by 0.73 inches. These are standard J-style single-coil dimensions, so they fit guitars routed for single-coil pickups in that format.
