Description
EMG P60 Active P90-Size Humbucker Pickup in Black
The EMG P60 captures classic P90 tonal character in a compact humbucker footprint, engineered for recording and production work that demands warm, articulate midrange without single-coil noise. This active design pairs a ceramic magnet with EMG's built-in preamp, offering responsive dynamics and controlled output that sits cleanly in dense mixes and adapts to both modern and vintage-voiced tracking setups.
Tone & Electronics for Recording
A ceramic magnet and 2.95kHz resonant frequency produce vintage-inflected warmth with defined attack—ideal for capturing articulate leads and punchy rhythm parts. The integrated preamp operates across a wide 9V–27V voltage range, delivering 1.25V output at the string level and 3.5V on strum for responsive dynamics that translate accurately to tape or DAW, while –89dBV noise rejection at 60Hz ensures a clean signal path free from AC hum and electrical interference common in home studios.
Installation & Session Workflow
Housed in P90-style dimensions measuring 3.36" × 1.365" × 0.877" with 3.125" screw spacing, this pickup fits standard P90 cavities and mounting schemes without modification. EMG's solderless wiring components streamline installation and reduce downtime, while onboard volume and tone controls allow real-time tonal adjustment during tracking and overdubs without requiring external pots, and the 3,000-hour battery life minimizes maintenance interruptions between sessions.

Reviews
At a Glance
The EMG P60 is an active humbucker voiced for warm midrange and defined punch, designed to sit clearly in mixes without the noise floor problems of traditional single-coils. Home and professional studio engineers favor it for blues, rock, and jazz tracking because its integrated preamp and –89dBV noise rejection deliver clean, articulate recordings across a wide voltage range (9V–27V). Install it into a P90 cavity and get studio-grade signal integrity with onboard tone shaping, making it ideal for session work and overdub-heavy productions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this pickup fit my guitar?
The P60 is designed for P90-style cavities with 3.125" screw spacing and measures 3.36" × 1.365" × 0.877". Confirm your guitar has a standard P90 cavity before purchasing; it will not fit humbucker-routed guitars without routing modifications.
How does the active preamp affect tone and battery life?
The built-in preamp operates from 9V to 27V, delivering 1.25V output at the string level and 3.5V on strum for responsive dynamics and low noise. A single battery lasts approximately 3,000 hours of playing time, minimizing maintenance.
What kind of tone should I expect?
The P60 delivers warm, vintage-inflected midrange with articulate attack and a 2.95kHz resonant frequency, combined with a ceramic magnet for defined punch and –89dBV noise rejection at 60Hz. It excels in blues, rock, and jazz but is not optimized for high-gain styles like thrash metal or djent.
How hard is installation?
EMG includes solderless wiring components that simplify installation significantly. The pickup fits standard P90 mounting schemes, and integrated volume and tone controls eliminate the need to add external potentiometers.
How does this compare to passive P90s or other active pickups?
Unlike passive P90s, the P60 offers active noise rejection and consistent output across wide voltage ranges, making it more stable in different rigs and recording environments. Comparable models include the Seymour Duncan P90L, DiMarzio Virtual PAF, and Fishman Fluence Classic; the P60 balances vintage tone with modern active reliability.
