Description
EMG Maverick Five Bridge 7-String Retro Active Single Coil Pickup in Black
The EMG Maverick Five bridge pickup captures articulate, responsive single-coil character in a compact form factor engineered for seven-string instruments. This retro-active design pairs vintage tonal aesthetics with modern EMG engineering, making it an ideal bridge solution for producers and engineers tracking extended-range guitar who need clarity and definition without coloration at the bridge position.
Recording & Tone Character
The single-coil architecture yields bright, articulate high-end response with tight low-end definition—essential for bridge placement clarity in dense mixes. Retro-active circuitry ensures EMG reliability and tonal consistency while preserving the sonic character associated with classic single-coil voicing, allowing the fundamental guitar character to remain transparent through processing chains.

Constructed with custom-wound coils and Alnico 5 magnets, this pickup maintains solid output and structural integrity across extended playing ranges. Frequently Asked Questions
Is this pickup suitable for blues and jazz?
No, the Maverick Five is designed for progressive and metal genres. Its bright, articulate single-coil character and tight low end are optimized for those styles; blues and jazz players typically benefit from warmer, more resonant pickup designs.
What makes retro-active circuitry different from standard active pickups?
Retro-active technology combines EMG's active reliability and consistency with the sonic character associated with classic passive single-coil voicing, giving you modern engineering in a vintage-sounding package.
Will this pickup fit my seven-string guitar?
This bridge-position pickup is designed with a compact form factor for standard seven-string guitar cavities and functions as a drop-in replacement, though you should verify compatibility with your specific instrument before purchase.
What's included, and do I need additional gear to install it?
The pickup itself is included; installation typically requires basic soldering skills or professional setup. Consult your guitar's wiring diagram and EMG's installation guide for specific requirements.
How does this compare to the EMG 81-7?
The Maverick Five is a single-coil design with articulate, bright character, while the 81-7 is a humbucker with higher output and thicker tone; choose the Maverick Five for clarity and transparency, the 81-7 for aggression and saturation.
