Description
EMG 60 Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Chrome
The EMG 60 is a workhorse active humbucker engineered for recording clarity, articulation, and controlled output without sacrificing vintage tonal character. This covered chrome pickup balances the warmth of a classic humbucker with the definition and punch that active electronics provide, translating reliably to tape, digital recording, and mixing in rock, metal, and studio sessions.
Active Electronics & Recording Output
Built on active ceramic technology, the EMG 60 delivers a peak output voltage of 3.0V with a 1.0V RMS output, providing consistent drive into interface preamps and mixing chains without excessive noise floor. The 10 Kohm output impedance ensures transparent signal transmission and minimal loading effects on your recording signal path, preserving harmonic detail across sessions.
Installation & Studio Workflow
This pickup ships with a complete solderless installation ecosystem—Quik-connect cable, pre-wired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws, and springs—enabling fast, reliable drop-in replacement that minimizes downtime in your production schedule. A single 9V battery powers the pickup for approximately 3000 hours of use before replacement, eliminating mid-session power concerns during tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions
What genres and playing styles is the EMG M-60 best suited for?
The M-60 excels in rock, metal, hard rock, and studio sessions where articulation and output are priorities. It is not recommended for jazz or folk, where its active voice and high output character may be less musical.
What's included with the M-60, and how difficult is installation?
The pickup ships complete with a Quik-connect cable, pre-wired split-shaft volume and tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, screws, and springs. The solderless system is designed for straightforward drop-in replacement, making it accessible for intermediate to advanced players.
How long does the 9V battery last, and how often will I need to replace it?
A single 9V battery powers the M-60 for approximately 3000 hours of use, which typically translates to several months of regular playing before replacement is needed.
How does the EMG M-60 compare to passive humbuckers or other active pickups?
The M-60's active design delivers a 3.0V peak output and 1.0V RMS with 10K output impedance, providing aggressive, noise-free signal transmission and transparent amplifier coupling. It sits between vintage warmth and modern articulation, making it more defined and punchy than a traditional passive humbucker while retaining balanced tonal character—comparable to the Seymour Duncan JB Jr or DiMarzio D-Activator.
Can the M-60 be installed in any 6-string guitar?
The M-60 is designed for 6-string guitars and requires standard humbucker routing and wiring. The complete installation accessory set supports straightforward replacement, but compatibility with your specific instrument depends on its existing humbucker cavity and electronics configuration.
