Description
EMG LJV Active Bass Pickup in Red
The EMG LJV (Long Jazz Vintage) is a compact active bridge pickup engineered to capture articulate, controlled low-end response without excessive coloration. Its narrow profile and manageable output integrate seamlessly into tight bridge cavities while delivering the clarity and precision that define EMG's active topology. This pickup excels in tracking sessions, layered arrangements, and productions where definition over raw power shapes the final mix—recordings where technique and tone sculpting through playing dynamics matter more than aggressive pickup output.
Active Electronics & Recording Characteristics
Running on a single 9V battery with a 3000-hour lifespan, this pickup produces 1.50V on the string for controlled fundamental response and 4.50V on the thump control for versatile tonal shaping in the mix. The -99 dB noise floor at 60 Hz ensures clean DI recordings through long cable runs and interface inputs, while the 10 kΩ output impedance maintains signal integrity into standard bass amplifier inputs and preamps.
Specifications & Construction
Alnico 5 magnets with exposed pole pieces deliver the harmonic character and response definition expected from this vintage-inspired design. At 3.70" long and 0.73" wide, this bridge-position pickup fits bass designs with tighter spacing constraints. The 3.20 kHz resonant frequency positions the pickup's emphasis in the midrange clarity zone, providing definition and presence in dense mixes away from boom and excessive treble.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this pickup fit my bass, and what's included?
The LJV bridge version measures 3.70" long by 0.73" wide, fitting basses with tighter spacing constraints. The package includes a Quik-Connect cable, prewired volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, and adjustment screws—you'll need one 9V battery to power it.
How quiet is this pickup, and how long will the battery last?
The -99 dB noise floor at 60 Hz ensures quiet operation through long cable runs and venue systems. A single 9V battery provides 3000 hours of runtime, roughly 4 months of daily 8-hour use.
What genres and playing styles is the LJV best suited for?
The LJV excels in jazz, funk, progressive, and studio session work where articulate midrange definition and controlled low end matter most. It is not recommended for metal or hard rock, where aggressive output and heavy coloration are typically preferred.
How does the LJV compare to passive pickups or other active models?
The LJV's active topology delivers a -99 dB noise floor and precise output control that passive pickups cannot match, making it ideal for quiet studio and live chains. Compared to aggressive active pickups, the LJV prioritizes vintage-inspired character and midrange clarity over raw power, with a 1.50V string output and 3.20 kHz resonant peak tuned for definition rather than boom.
What output levels should I expect?
The pickup delivers 1.50V on the string for controlled fundamental response and 4.50V on the thump control for tonal shaping, with a 10 kΩ output impedance that maintains signal integrity into standard bass amplifier inputs.
