Description
EMG JX System Active Bass Pickup Set in Black
The EMG JX System captures articulate, punchy single-coil J bass tones with the reliability of active electronics and solderless installation. These ceramic-magnet pickups deliver clarity and definition across the frequency spectrum, making them an excellent choice for home studios and session work where precision in your signal chain matters—without installation complexity slowing down your workflow.
Active Electronics & Recording Performance
Powered by a single 9V battery with an impressive 3,000-hour lifespan, the JX System generates 2.00V output in normal playing and peaks at 8.00V with aggressive thumb technique, giving you dynamic headroom for recording without noise floor issues. The -105 dBV noise floor at 60Hz and 2 kohm output impedance ensure a clean, quiet signal path to your audio interface or mixing console, translating to transparent bass capture with minimal noise artifacts in your recordings.
Studio Setup & Installation
Bridge and neck pickups arrive pre-wired with solderless connections, eliminating setup delays; the set includes dual 25kΩ volume potentiometers, a 25kΩ tone potentiometer, output jack, battery clip, and adjustment screws for quick installation. Made in USA from ceramic magnets with black finish, these pickups integrate seamlessly into existing J bass wiring schemes, letting you focus on recording rather than troubleshooting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to solder these pickups in, or is installation simple?
No soldering required—the JX System arrives fully pre-wired with solderless connections. The set includes dual 25kΩ volume potentiometers, a 25kΩ tone potentiometer, output jack, battery clip, and adjustment screws, so you can wire it into a standard J bass in minutes.
What kind of tone character do these pickups have?
The JX System delivers articulate, punchy single-coil J bass tones with clear high-mids and excellent definition. Active electronics keep the noise floor extremely low (-105 dBV at 60Hz), so you get dynamic range and precision without hum or hiss, making them ideal for funk, jazz, and studio sessions.
How long does the battery last, and what output levels should I expect?
The 9V battery lasts approximately 3,000 hours of playing time. Normal finger and thumb playing outputs 2.00V, while aggressive thump technique peaks at 8.00V, giving you plenty of dynamic headroom without clipping or noise issues.
Are these pickups suitable for metal or drop-tuned basses?
No—the JX System is designed for articulate, defined tones and is best suited to funk, jazz, and studio work. For thrash metal or heavily dropped tunings, you'll want pickups voiced for more aggressive, compressed character.
What skill level do I need to install and use these pickups?
The solderless design makes installation accessible to beginner and intermediate players, while the active circuitry and low noise floor appeal to advanced and professional users recording in the studio or gigging live.
