Description
EMG HX Active Single Coil Pickup in Ivory
The EMG HX captures the articulate snap and clarity of a single-coil design without the noise floor that traditionally comes with passive designs. This active pickup cuts through a mix with tight, defined response and minimal hum—essential for tracking sessions where precision separation across the frequency range keeps every note sitting cleanly in your mix. The ivory finish integrates seamlessly into offset or vintage-style instruments while maintaining modern performance standards that studio recording demands.
Tone & Output Character
As an active design, the HX operates on a 9V battery system and produces noise-free output with exceptional clarity and midrange presence. Single-coil voicing yields articulate highs and punchy lows, making this pickup responsive to pick dynamics and touch sensitivity—critical for capturing nuanced performance takes. The character translates well across funk, pop, and modern rock sessions where definition and tonal separation matter for the final mix.
Installation & Compatibility
The HX uses a standard single-coil footprint and mounts in any single-coil cavity with standard pole spacing. Active operation requires a 9V battery system and preamp wiring; verify your instrument's electronics accommodate active circuitry before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the EMG HX require special wiring or a 9V battery?
Yes, the HX is an active design that operates on a 9V battery system and requires preamp wiring. Verify your instrument's electronics can accommodate active circuitry before installation; standard passive single-coil routing alone is not sufficient.
Will this pickup fit my existing single-coil guitar?
The HX uses a standard single-coil footprint with standard pole spacing and fits any single-coil cavity. However, you must confirm your guitar's electronics can support active operation, as passive-only wiring will not work.
What genres and playing styles is the EMG HX best suited for?
The HX excels in funk, pop, modern rock, and studio sessions where articulate highs, punchy lows, and tight frequency response are priorities. It is not designed for traditional jazz or blues, where warmer, more rounded single-coil tones are preferred.
How does the HX compare to passive single-coil pickups?
The EMG HX delivers the same articulate single-coil voicing as passive designs but eliminates hum and noise, offers tighter frequency response, and provides responsive pick dynamics with minimal phase shift. The trade-off is the requirement for 9V battery and active circuitry.
What does the ivory finish look like in a build?
The ivory finish integrates seamlessly into offset and vintage-style guitar builds while maintaining modern performance standards and visual consistency with many classic and contemporary instrument aesthetics.
