What does the long shaft design do?

The long shaft allows the pickup to mount in deeper or recessed cavities found in vintage and custom guitars, letting you install it without routing modifications while maintaining proper operation and tonal response.

Is this pickup good for clean tones, or just high-gain?

The HA works across both clean and driven playing; its single-coil voicing delivers body in rhythm work and articulate presence for leads, while active circuitry keeps output consistent and noise-free no matter how you play it.

How does an active single coil compare to a passive single coil?

Active circuitry eliminates the noise floor and hum of passive single coils while preserving brightness and definition, and it provides natural compression for more even output across your dynamic range.

Will this drop into a standard humbucker cavity?

Yes; the HA is housed in a humbucker footprint, making it a direct replacement for any guitar with standard humbucker routing, and the long shaft gives extra flexibility for non-standard mounting depths.

What genres and playing styles suit the HA best?

The HA excels in rock, hard rock, and progressive music where clarity, cutting presence, and dynamic response are priorities; it is not designed for traditional jazz or folk voicings.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included. Some states ask buyers to self-report use tax on out-of-state purchases.

EMG HA Long Shaft Active Single Coil Pickup in Brushed Chrome

The EMG HA captures the articulate snap and clarity of a single-coil design in a humbucker footprint, finished in distinctive brushed chrome. This active pickup tracks with precision through pick dynamics and playing subtlety while maintaining the focused midrange character that defines EMG's single-coil voiced pickups. The long shaft design accommodates deeper mounting positions, enabling maximum tonal versatility in the recording chain without routing modifications—critical for home studios working with existing instruments or vintage gear.

Tone & Recording Response

Active circuitry delivers consistent output and natural compression across the dynamic range, eliminating the noise floor issues of passive single coils while preserving the definition and brightness essential for tracking and mixing. The HA's tuned resonance peak sits in the upper-midrange, cutting through dense arrangements and yielding articulate lead takes without losing body on rhythm parts. In the mix, this character sits cleanly between other instruments, translating well across monitoring systems and playback chains.

Construction & Durability

The brushed chrome finish resists fingerprints and corrosion far better than standard nickel plating, maintaining its appearance through years of studio sessions and regular handling. Long shaft construction allows proper operation in guitars with recessed pickup cavities or non-standard body geometry, expanding compatibility across vintage and custom instrument designs—essential for producers managing diverse session gear.
