Description
EMG H Long Shaft Active Single Coil Pickup in Black
The EMG H delivers the articulate, punchy character of a single-coil design wrapped in a compact humbucker housing. This active pickup excels at cutting through dense mixes with clarity and definition, making it ideal for recording sessions where precision and noise rejection are paramount. The long-shaft design accommodates various guitar configurations with minimal modification, simplifying integration into existing studio setups.
Tone & Electronics
Active circuitry powered by a 9V battery generates a 3.00V output on strum with a resonant frequency of 4.05 kHz, capturing the crisp, articulate response single-coils are known for in recorded takes. The 10 kΩ output impedance and –101 dB output noise floor at 60 Hz ensure clean signal transmission with minimal hum—critical for capturing quiet passages and layered tracking without unwanted artifacts. Current draw of just 400 microamps at 9V yields extended battery life of approximately 600 hours, keeping session downtime minimal.
Design & Build
This pickup pairs a ceramic magnet with active electronics to deliver responsive dynamics across the full frequency spectrum, translating to natural tone shaping in the mix. The package includes matching 25k volume and tone potentiometers, battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus, mounting hardware, and all necessary cables—everything required for immediate integration into compatible systems. The black cover with silver EMG logo maintains a professional aesthetic, and the 27V DC maximum supply voltage provides headroom for various power configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this and a passive humbucker?
The EMG H is an active pickup powered by a 9V battery, delivering 3.00V output with a –101 dB noise floor and articulate single-coil character in a compact housing. Passive humbuckers rely on magnet strength alone and produce lower output with more susceptibility to hum; this active design ensures extended output, noise immunity, and crisp clarity across dense mixes.
How long does the battery last?
The 9V battery lasts approximately 600 hours of playing time, with a current draw of just 400 microamps at 9V. Battery life depends on playing intensity and frequency; the included battery bus makes replacement straightforward.
What's included in the package?
The pickup comes with matching 25k volume and tone potentiometers, battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus, mounting hardware, and all necessary interconnect cables for immediate installation into compatible guitar systems.
Does this fit my guitar without major modification?
The long-shaft design is engineered to accommodate various guitar configurations with minimal modification. Confirm your guitar accepts humbucker-format pickups and verify shaft length compatibility with your current electronics cavity.
What genres does this pickup work best in?
The EMG H excels in hard rock, metal, and progressive music where articulate, punchy tone and noise rejection are essential. Its high output and cutting clarity make it less suited to traditional jazz and folk applications.
