Description
EMG FTX Active Single Coil Pickup in Black
The EMG FTX delivers articulate, transparent single-coil character with the noise rejection and output consistency that active electronics provide. Engineered for recording sessions where clarity and definition are non-negotiable, this pickup excels in high-gain tracking while maintaining the snap and responsiveness that make single coils desirable for capturing natural dynamics and note separation.
Recording & Mix Integration
The FTX uses EMG's active circuit to achieve a punchy midrange and controlled treble that sits clearly in dense mixes without brittleness. The design preserves single-coil dynamics while eliminating 60-cycle hum, making it essential for studio recording, where clean signal integrity and low noise floor directly impact mix clarity and post-production flexibility.
Installation & Compatibility
This is a standard-format single-coil pickup with active circuitry requiring a 9V battery and preamp module. It integrates into any guitar with single-coil routing and will pair with EMG's control systems or can be wired with standard passive tone and volume controls depending on your setup preference.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the FTX different from a standard passive single-coil pickup?
The FTX uses active electronics powered by a 9V battery to eliminate 60-cycle hum and deliver a noise floor comparable to humbuckers, while preserving single-coil dynamics, snap, and touch sensitivity. It maintains articulate midrange and responsive character without the hum problems that plague passive single coils in high-gain or amplified live settings.
Will this pickup fit my guitar?
The FTX uses standard single-coil routing and mounting, so it installs into any guitar designed for single-coil pickups. It requires a 9V battery and preamp module, and can be wired with EMG preamp systems or paired with standard passive tone and volume controls depending on your setup.
What genres and playing styles is this pickup best suited for?
The FTX excels in high-gain rock and metal, studio sessions, and live amplified performance where clarity and hum-free operation are essential. Its articulate midrange and controlled treble also work well for clean tones, but it's optimized for cutting through dense mixes rather than traditional jazz or vintage blues voicings.
How does the FTX sound compared to passive single coils?
The FTX delivers punchy midrange and controlled treble with responsive dynamics, offering the clarity and definition of a passive single coil but with zero hum, lower noise floor, and more consistent output across playing dynamics. It maintains single-coil snap and responsiveness without the brittleness that can occur in high-gain contexts.
What power requirements does the FTX have?
The FTX operates on a standard 9V battery and requires EMG's preamp module or equivalent active electronics installation. Battery life and performance remain stable across normal gigging and recording use, and the low impedance output ensures clean signal transmission to your amp or interface.
