Description
EMG F-Marty Friedman Passive Humbucker Pickup Set in Brushed Chrome
The EMG MF Marty Friedman Passive Humbucker Set captures the articulate, focused aggression that defined Friedman's signature tone across two decades of virtuoso playing. These Alnico 5 passive humbuckers translate pick attack and harmonic complexity with clarity that passive designs excel at, making them essential for recording sessions where transparent response and natural dynamics matter more than active circuitry coloration.
Recording & Mix Performance
Alnico 5 magnets paired with medium-high output create a balanced voicing across the frequency spectrum—aggressive enough for high-gain tracking yet articulate enough to retain definition in complex chord voicings and layered arrangements. The bridge and neck configuration ensures consistent tonal character across the fretboard without the compressed midrange typical of some active designs, giving your mix uncolored separation and punch.
Installation & Studio Workflow
These pickups ship with solderless wiring and four-conductor design, reducing setup time while maintaining full tonal flexibility for different session demands. The bundle includes everything needed for a complete retrofit: two 500k volume potentiometers, two 500k tone potentiometers, stereo output jack, two pickup in/out bus connections, mounting hardware, and all necessary cabling—enabling fast turnaround between session guitars without compromising your signal chain integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What skill level do I need to install these pickups?
These are designed for intermediate to advanced players. The solderless wiring system and complete included kit (potentiometers, output jack, cables, mounting hardware) simplify installation compared to traditional solder-based setups, but some familiarity with guitar electronics is helpful. The four-conductor design offers flexible wiring options for those who want to experiment with switching configurations.
What genres work best with these pickups?
These pickups excel in metal, hard rock, and progressive music where articulate attack and harmonic clarity matter. They are not voiced for jazz, blues, or country—the focused aggression and transparent response are engineered for high-gain applications and complex voicings in heavier styles.
What comes in the box?
This is a complete retrofit kit including bridge and neck passive humbuckers, two 500k volume potentiometers, two 500k tone potentiometers, stereo output jack, pickup bus connections, mounting screws, springs, pickup cables, connect cables, and mounting hardware. Everything needed for a full installation on a compatible instrument.
How do these compare to active pickups like the EMG 81/85?
These passive Alnico 5 pickups deliver transparent response without the compression and coloration of active circuitry, making them better for retaining harmonic complexity and pick dynamics. They offer a balanced frequency spectrum across the fretboard while maintaining the focused, articulate character Marty Friedman's tone is known for, though active pickups typically have higher output and sustain.
Will these fit my guitar?
These use a standard humbucker mounting footprint, so they fit any guitar designed for two humbuckers. The solderless wiring simplifies installation, though your instrument must have standard humbucker routes and compatible electronics cavities.
Do I pay sales tax on this order?
Sales tax is collected only on orders shipped to California; orders shipped to any other US state are not charged sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. At a typical 7% rate that is an estimated $17 less at checkout than the same listed price on a marketplace, which collects sales tax as the facilitator in most states.
