Description
EMG 89X-R Active Humbucker Pickup in Ivory
The EMG 89X-R delivers articulate, controlled output in a compact humbucker footprint, making it ideal for home studios and session work where clarity and definition matter without sacrificing traditional pickup response. The reverse-wound coil configuration minimizes hum while maintaining the dual-mode versatility that defines the X series, allowing seamless transitions between humbucker and single-coil character for flexible source tracking. This ivory finish variant pairs the same electronic sophistication with a distinctive aesthetic.
Tone & Recording Character
Built on Alnico V magnets, this pickup produces medium output with excellent articulation across the frequency spectrum—essential for capturing detail in the mix without phase issues or muddiness in stacked takes. The dual-mode X series preamps and coils enable independent humbucker and single-coil voice selection, giving you tonal range that extends far beyond conventional passive designs, allowing quick repositioning within a session without requiring additional switching hardware or re-setup.
Installation & Workflow
The EMG Quik-connect system streamlines installation and allows for quick swaps between instruments or future modifications during production work. The pickup ships with wiring and battery clip included, eliminating downtime sourcing additional components and keeping sessions moving forward.

Is this pickup good for blues or metal?

How does the reverse-wound coil configuration help?
The reverse-wound coil design minimizes hum while maintaining the dual-mode versatility of the X series, keeping your tone clean and noise-free across both humbucker and single-coil voice modes.
What is the output level, and how will it sit in a mix?
