EMG 89 Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Gold

EMG 89 Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Gold

The EMG 89 is a versatile active hybrid pickup that bridges single-coil clarity and humbucker thickness, delivering articulate mids and controlled output suitable for everything from classic rock to modern metal. Its brushed gold finish adds visual distinction while the solderless connection system makes installation straightforward without requiring traditional soldering work. This pickup operates as a true dual-mode design, toggling between single-coil and dual-coil configurations to shape your tonal range in real time.

Tone & Design

The active hybrid architecture combines a single-coil mode with an Alnico-loaded stacked design and a dual-coil mode featuring two Alnico-loaded coils, giving you flexibility across frequency ranges. AlNiCo 5 magnets and medium output keep the pickup responsive to pick dynamics while maintaining clarity at high gain, making it equally at home in a neck, bridge, or middle position. In tracking sessions, the switchable coil architecture lets you capture different tonal characters without swapping hardware—single-coil mode for articulate leads and defined stereo imaging, dual-coil mode for thicker, fuller body on rhythm takes.

Installation & Integration

Solderless connections and standard string spacing simplify wiring without sacrificing signal integrity, reducing setup time in the studio or during console changes. The pickup measures 69.9 × 38.1 × 22.9 mm with mounting screws spaced 78.5 mm apart, fitting standard guitar routing while the included 25k tone pot, 25k push/pull pot, battery bus, stereo output socket, and dual Pickup In/Out buses provide complete active control and flexible output options for direct-to-interface recording or blended amp/DI workflows.
