What is the long-shaft design and why does a 7-string need it?

The long-shaft design ensures proper fitment in 7-string guitar pickup cavities, which have different spacing requirements than standard 6-string routes. This configuration maintains balanced magnetic field distribution across all seven strings to prevent loss of coherence or clarity in the extended lower register.

Is this pickup suitable for blues or jazz?

No, the 85-7XH is optimized for metal, progressive, and high-gain styles. Its aggressive midrange character and punchy dynamics are designed for modern extended-range playing rather than jazz or blues applications.

What skill level do I need to install this pickup?

Installation requires intermediate to advanced soldering skills and familiarity with active pickup wiring. If you're new to pickup swaps, working with a qualified tech is recommended to ensure proper grounding and circuit connections.

How does the active circuit benefit my tone and performance?

The active EMG circuitry delivers high output and low impedance, providing focused midrange presence and rapid transient response that cuts through dense mixes. It also ensures noise rejection and consistent performance across playing dynamics, so your tone remains stable whether you're playing quietly or hitting hard.

Will this pickup work in any 7-string guitar?

The H-style humbucker footprint integrates with standard pickup routes on most 7-string guitars, and the long-shaft design is specifically configured for 7-string cavity fitment. Verify that your guitar accepts H-style humbuckers with proper spacing before purchase.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. On this item that is roughly $10 less out the door than the same listed price at a national retailer or on a marketplace.
