EMG 85-7XH Long Shaft 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Black Chrome
The EMG 85-7XH is a purpose-built 7-string humbucker engineered for extended-range tracking with its long-shaft configuration and modern soapbar housing. This active pickup delivers the articulate, punchy character EMG is known for, with enough output and clarity to capture drop tunings and high-gain amp settings without sacrificing definition in your recordings. The brushed black chrome finish integrates seamlessly into contemporary instrument builds, while the close aperture coils keep response tight and focused across all seven strings for precision tracking.
Tone & Recording Performance
The Alnico V magnet and close aperture coils yield a bright, responsive character with excellent note separation—ideal for capturing modern metal, progressive, and extended-range material in the studio. The active circuitry driven by a 9V battery provides consistent output and low noise floor, ensuring reliable performance during overdubs and live recording sessions with extended battery life (3000 hours per charge).
Installation & Instrument Integration
The long-shaft design and soapbar format fit 7-string instruments with standard EMG routing. The included solderless install system streamlines drop-in replacement without requiring soldering expertise, and the two conductors provide straightforward wiring for most 7-string configurations, minimizing session downtime.

Will this pickup fit my 7-string guitar?
Yes, the long-shaft soapbar design is formatted for 7-string instruments with standard EMG routing. Confirm your guitar's pickup cavity matches EMG's soapbar dimensions before ordering.
How does the EMG 85-7XH compare to other 7-string active pickups?
The 85-7XH delivers bright, punchy articulation with tight low end and excellent note separation across all seven strings, comparable to Seymour Duncan Blackouts 7-String and DiMarzio Crunchlab 7.
