Description
EMG 85-7H 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Gold
The EMG 85-7H captures the aggressive, articulate character essential for modern extended-range production, with tight low-end definition and a controlled high-mid presence that translates clearly to mix. This brushed gold finish variant pairs the classic EMG active design with a refined aesthetic. Built for 7-string instruments, the close aperture coil design ensures clarity across all seven strings during tracking and overdubbing without muddiness or feedback artifacts.
Tone & Recording Performance
An Alnico V magnet paired with close aperture coils produces a balanced output of 3.10V RMS (4.50V peak), providing sufficient headroom for high-gain tracking and processing without excessive noise floor coloration. The 1870Hz resonant frequency centers the midrange bite where articulation remains defined in layered arrangements, while the -101dBV noise floor maintains transparency even under heavy compression or saturation during mixing.
Power & Studio Integration
The solderless system runs on a single 9V battery with an exceptional 3,000-hour lifespan, eliminating power interruptions during extended sessions. A 10kΩ output impedance and 80µA current draw ensure stable signal integrity and seamless compatibility with audio interfaces, console preamps, and processing chains in the studio.
