Description
EMG 707TWX-R 7-String Active Single Coil Pickup in Black
The EMG 707TWX-R is a high-output active single-coil pickup engineered for extended-range 7-string instruments, delivering articulate treble response and controlled dynamics without the hum associated with passive designs. Positioned as a neck-variant pickup, it excels at capturing definition and clarity across the lower frequencies while maintaining tight transient attack on higher strings. In the studio or live rig, this is the pickup that ensures noise-free performance and consistent gain across a wide playing range—critical for tracking clean takes and maintaining separation in dense mixes.
Tone & Response in the Mix
The 4.44 kHz resonant frequency in single-coil mode emphasizes upper-midrange clarity and articulation, ideal for lead work and percussive playing styles that need to cut through a crowded frequency spectrum. With Alnico V magnets and 2.00V output per string in single-coil configuration, the pickup generates a punchy, defined tone that sits clearly in dense mixes while the -107 dB noise floor ensures pristine recordings even at high gain settings during tracking sessions.
Installation & Compatibility
The 7-pin connector system eliminates soldering requirements, making swaps and installation straightforward for studio setups where you need to work efficiently between sessions. Designed to accommodate strings up to 2.62" (66.5 mm) in width, the pickup integrates seamlessly into modern extended-range instruments without modification.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does active single-coil design mean for my 7-string guitar?
Active single-coil circuitry means this pickup uses a preamp powered by a 9V battery to boost and shape the signal before it reaches your amp, eliminating hum and generating 2.00V output per string with a -107 dB noise floor. You get the articulate treble and clarity of a single-coil without the buzz and noise typical of passive designs, making it ideal for high-gain studio and live setups.
Is this a neck or bridge pickup?
This is a neck-position variant, optimized for capturing definition and clarity across lower frequencies while maintaining tight transient attack. It excels at lead work and percussive playing in the upper register.
What genres and playing styles is this pickup best suited for?
The 707TWX-R is engineered for metal, progressive, extended-range, and studio session work. Its articulate treble, punchy tone, and hum-free operation make it less suited for blues and jazz styles, where players typically favor warmer, more rounded single-coil character.
Do I need to solder this pickup into my guitar?
No. The 7-pin connector system eliminates soldering requirements, making installation straightforward for both technicians and players. The pickup is designed to fit modern extended-range instruments up to 2.62 inches (66.5 mm) string width without modification.
How long does the 9V battery last?
A standard 9V battery provides approximately 1500 hours of playing time. The pickup also supports up to 27V DC maximum supply voltage if you prefer an external power source instead.
