This active humbucker combines EMG's proven design with versatile tone shaping, translating equally well to rock, metal, and modern production styles where precision tracking matters.
Tone & Active Electronics
Built around ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, the 60X produces balanced, articulate voice with strong note separation ideal for layering and mix clarity. The integrated Active Tone Control (VLPF) allows real-time high-frequency roll-off during sessions, giving you hands-on control over brightness and sustain without compromising the focused character needed for punch in a mix.
Recording Setup & Installation
This pickup runs on a single 9V battery via the included battery bus and connectors. The Solderless Install System eliminates traditional wiring; combined with the long shaft design, installation accommodates a wide range of instrument cavities and hardware configurations, reducing studio downtime and enabling quick session swaps.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Active Tone Control do?
The VLPF (Voltage Low-Pass Filter) lets you roll off high frequencies in real time, giving you hands-on control over brightness and sustain without losing clarity. You control it via a dedicated pot on your guitar.
Is this pickup good for jazz or blues?
No—the 60X is voiced for rock, metal, and modern styles that benefit from articulate, punchy mids and tight lows. Jazz and blues players typically prefer warmer, less aggressive voicings.
What does the long shaft design do?
The long shaft accommodates a wider range of guitar cavities and hardware configurations, making installation more flexible even if your guitar's routing is non-standard.
What's included and what do I need to know about installation?
The pickup comes with the solderless install system (cables and connectors), mounting screws, springs, a 25k volume pot, and an active tone pot. It runs on one 9V battery via the included battery bus—no traditional soldering required.
How does the 60X compare to the EMG 81?
The 60X is more articulate and balanced with better note separation, while the 81 is hotter and more aggressive. The 60X suits players seeking clarity and tonal flexibility; the 81 is better for maximum output and aggression.
