Description
EMG 60X Active Humbucker Pickup in Black Chrome
The EMG 60X is a refined active humbucker engineered to capture articulate, controlled recordings without sacrificing the thick midrange character humbuckers are known for. The Black Chrome finish offers a sleek aesthetic while the solderless quick-connect system makes installation and swapping straightforward. This pickup excels in modern production contexts where clarity and minimal noise floor are essential to maintaining a clean signal chain from source to interface.
Tone & Output Characteristics
The 60X generates a 3.00 V output during single-note play and 8.00 V on full strums, providing responsive dynamic range that translates accurately across tracking intensities and playing dynamics. Its 2.28 kHz resonant frequency centers the presence peak in the upper-midrange, yielding definition and articulation that sits well in dense mixes and high-gain sessions. The ceramic magnet structure contributes to the pickup's aggressive character while maintaining the musical balance needed for both rhythm and lead recording.
Electronics & Integration
Active circuitry produces an exceptionally low -107 dB output noise floor at 60Hz, ensuring clean recordings free from hum and electromagnetic interference when tracking in any studio environment. The included split-shaft volume and active tone control provides onboard shaping without requiring external pedals, streamlining your recording chain and workflow, while the 2.00 kΩ output impedance ensures clean signal transmission to any amp or audio interface. A single 9V battery powers the electronics for approximately 3,000 hours of continuous operation, with support for supply voltages up to 27 V DC for extended headroom during demanding sessions.

Reviews
At a Glance
The EMG 60X is an active humbucker designed to sit clearly in dense, high-gain mixes—its 2.28 kHz presence peak and -107 dB noise floor keep lead and rhythm tracks articulate even in heavily layered sessions. The split-shaft active tone control lets you shape character directly at the source, and responsive output dynamics (3.00 V single-note, 8.00 V full strum) capture nuance across playing intensities without requiring external pedals or outboard gear. This is the right choice for producers and engineers tracking metal, hard rock, and high-gain modern music who need a pickup that delivers clean signal integrity and aggressive character without compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions
What genres and playing styles is the 60X best suited for?
The EMG 60X excels in metal, hard rock, and high-gain lead work where clarity and controlled output matter most. Its articulate upper-midrange and minimal noise floor make it ideal for studio sessions and stage use in heavy music; it is not recommended for jazz, folk, or blues, where its aggressive character and active circuitry do not serve those aesthetics.
How long does the 9V battery last, and what does the active circuitry include?
The single 9V battery powers the electronics for approximately 3,000 hours of continuous operation, and the circuit supports supply voltages up to 27 V DC for extended headroom. A split-shaft volume and active tone control are included, allowing you to shape character onboard without external pedals.
Is this pickup easy to install, and what finish does it come in?
Yes—the EMG 60X uses a solderless Quik-Connect system, making installation and swapping straightforward. The pickup comes in a sleek Black Chrome finish and includes all necessary electronics and controls.
What output levels and noise performance can I expect?
The 60X generates 3.00 V on single-note play and 8.00 V on full strums, providing responsive dynamic range. Its active circuitry produces an exceptionally low -107 dB output noise floor at 60Hz, minimizing hum and interference in both stage and studio environments.
How does the 60X compare to other active humbuckers?
The EMG 60X is comparable to models like the Seymour Duncan JB and DiMarzio Tone Zone, but it prioritizes articulation and controlled output with a strong upper-midrange presence, ceramic magnet construction, and industry-leading noise performance for modern high-gain applications.
