Description
EMG 60AX Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Ivory
The EMG 60AX captures the balanced aggression of modern active design while preserving the harmonic complexity that defines classic 60 character—essential for recordings where clarity cuts through dense arrangements. Its long-shaft configuration fits guitars with deeper body cavities, and the ivory finish blends naturally into lighter instrument aesthetics. This pickup excels in high-gain and moderate-gain tracking where note definition and articulation remain audible even under heavy processing.
Recording & Tracking Performance
The 1.84 kHz resonant frequency and 2.00 Kohm output impedance position this pickup to capture balanced detail—retaining pick attack and note separation at distortion levels where less refined designs collapse into mush. Output voltage of 8.00V under typical strum supplies substantial headroom to your interface or preamp, remaining responsive across dynamic playing and sitting cleanly in dense mixes without requiring aggressive EQ correction.
Active Circuit & Studio Integration
Active circuitry draws only 80 microamps at 9V, yielding approximately 3000 hours of battery life—meaning multi-session projects run without power interruptions. The solderless install system arrives completely wired with 25k volume pot, 25k tone pot, battery bus, stereo output jack, and all necessary cables—enabling quick retrofit between session instruments without soldering downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a long-shaft pickup, and which guitars does it fit?
Yes, the 60AX features a long-shaft design specifically for guitars with deeper body cavities. Measure your pickup cavity depth before ordering; this design accommodates deeper routing than standard shaft pickups.
Does this pickup require soldering to install?
No. The 60AX includes a solderless install system with pre-wired volume pot, tone pot, battery bus, stereo output jack, and all necessary cables, allowing installation without soldering expertise.
How long does the battery last, and what is the power draw?
The pickup draws only 80 microamps at 9V, yielding approximately 3000 hours of battery life—roughly 4 months of moderate daily playing. It supports up to 27V DC maximum supply if you want extended runtime.
How does the 60AX compare to the EMG 81?
The 60AX prioritizes harmonic complexity and note separation with a balanced, less aggressive output (8V), while the EMG 81 is hotter and more designed for maximum punch. The 60AX suits players who want clarity and warmth alongside high-gain capability.
What genres and playing styles work best with this pickup?
The 60AX excels in high-gain rock, metal, progressive, and drop-tuning applications where articulation matters. It is not recommended for traditional jazz or acoustic folk, which require warmer, less aggressive voicing.
