Description
EMG 60AX Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Black
The EMG 60AX is a versatile active humbucker engineered to capture balanced recordings with articulate highs and controlled lows, making it equally effective in classic rock, metal, and modern production contexts. The long shaft variant accommodates deeper guitar body cavities and non-standard pickup ring depths, ensuring seamless integration into custom or vintage-style builds without coloration. This is a workhorse pickup built for producers and engineers who need consistent, predictable tone without excessive output compression—ideal for session work and multi-track recording.
Tone & Recording Character
Built around alnico magnets within closely-wound aperture coils, the 60AX produces a resonant frequency of 1.84 kHz that emphasizes midrange clarity while keeping both ends of the spectrum articulate—critical for punchy rhythm tracks and soloists that cut through a dense mix. The 3.00 V string output and 8.00 V strum output deliver responsive dynamics that capture pick attack without clipping preamps or introducing unwanted saturation, and the 2.00 kΩ output impedance pairs cleanly with audio interfaces, preamps, and standard effects chains used in modern home studios.
Low-Noise Active Design
Active circuitry draws only 80 microamps at 9V, yielding 3000 hours of battery life—roughly two years of moderate playing between battery changes. The pickup supports up to 27V DC maximum supply for multi-pickup systems or aftermarket power solutions, and the -105 dBV output noise floor keeps hum and interference to professional studio standards, eliminating unwanted buzz and hum in tracking and mixing sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the long shaft design mean for my guitar?
The long shaft accommodates deeper guitar body cavities and non-standard pickup ring depths without compromising tone. This gives you installation flexibility if your guitar has a non-standard routing or if you're upgrading a semi-hollow or custom instrument.
How long does the battery last?
Active circuitry draws only 80 microamps at 9V, yielding approximately 3000 hours of battery life—roughly two years of moderate playing between battery changes.
Is this pickup suitable for blues?
The 60AX is optimized for classic rock, metal, and modern genres with its articulate, balanced output profile. It is not recommended for traditional blues playing styles.
What output level does the 60AX deliver?
String output is 3.00 V and strum output is 8.00 V, providing responsive dynamics that track pick attack without overwhelming tube amps or solid-state rigs. Output impedance of 2.00 kΩ pairs cleanly with standard guitar electronics and effects chains.
What kind of noise floor does this pickup have?
The -105 dBV output noise floor keeps hum and interference to professional studio standards, ensuring clean signal integrity in both live and recorded applications.
