Description
EMG 60-8H 8-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Gold
The EMG 60-8H delivers the balanced, articulate response that defines the 60 design, scaled for eight-string extended-range guitars. Tracking low frequencies with clarity while maintaining defined midrange presence, this active humbucker captures complex chord voicings and extended tunings without muddiness. The ceramic-magnet platform yields the warmth and sustain essential for modern production, while the gold finish adds visual distinction without compromising the electrical integrity of this professional-grade component.
Recording & Mix Characteristics
Active circuitry powered by a single 9V battery ensures consistent gain-staging and headroom across the full frequency range, critical for tracking multiple passes and layering eight-string parts in a session. The ceramic magnets with steel pole pieces configuration produces the EMG 60's signature balanced midrange presence—articulate enough to sit clearly in dense mixes yet warm enough to anchor heavy material. This tonal character translates cleanly to both direct recording and amp-miked setups, reducing the need for excessive EQ correction during mixing.
Installation & Studio Integration
The pickup ships with EMG's solderless quick-connect harness, enabling rapid swaps during pre-production and demo sessions without soldering. This eight-string version fits a standard eight-string humbucker rout, making it compatible with current eight-string production guitars and the instrument inventory typical in home studios and project facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the EMG 60-8H compare to the EMG 81-8H?
The 60-8H delivers a more balanced midrange with greater articulation and note separation, while the 81 is more aggressive and higher-output. The 60 is better suited for clarity across complex chords and extended-range voicings, whereas the 81 prioritizes raw power and cutting through dense mixes with punch.
Will this fit my eight-string guitar?
The EMG 60-8H fits any standard eight-string humbucker rout. If your guitar has an eight-string humbucker cavity, this pickup will drop in; verify your routing matches standard eight-string humbucker dimensions before ordering.
What does the solderless quick-connect harness do?
EMG's quick-connect harness eliminates the need to solder wires during installation, streamlining the swap for players with basic electronics comfort. All connections are push-fit, making the job faster and reducing soldering risk.
How long does the 9V battery last?
The description does not specify battery life. Battery duration depends on playing volume, frequency, and output usage; contact EMG or your retailer for typical expected battery lifespan in regular use.
Is this pickup suitable for jazz or blues?
No. The EMG 60-8H is voiced for metal, progressive, and drop-tuning applications. Jazz and blues players typically prefer passive designs or pickups optimized for those genres' tonal requirements.
