Description
EMG 60-8H 8-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Chrome
The EMG 60-8H brings the balanced, articulate character of EMG's legendary 60 neck humbucker to extended-range recording applications. This chrome-finished pickup adapts traditional humbucker voicing for eight-string instruments, delivering defined note separation across all strings while preserving warmth and sustain—essential for capturing clean takes in the studio without muddiness or loss of upper-frequency definition.
Design & Construction
Built with ceramic magnets and steel pole pieces, the 60-8H maintains a traditional humbucker shell with exposed pole pieces rather than soapbar construction. This design enables precise pole piece adjustment for tone-shaping during setup and fits a standard eight-string humbucker rout, streamlining installation and allowing quick sonic refinement across your recording sessions.
Electronics & Power
This active pickup runs on a single 9V battery, keeping your signal clean and responsive without the need for multiple power sources or external preamps. The included EMG solderless quick-connect harness simplifies wiring and minimizes soldering during installation, reducing setup time so you can focus on tracking and performance.

Does this fit my eight-string guitar?
Yes, if your guitar has a standard eight-string humbucker rout. The 60-8H uses a traditional humbucker shell with exposed pole pieces, not soapbar construction, so verify your rout type before purchasing.
How does the active design work?
It runs on a single 9V battery, providing a clean, responsive signal without external preamps or multiple power sources. Battery life is typical for active pickups and is easily replaceable.
What genres and tunings is this pickup best for?
It excels in progressive, metal, extended-range, and drop-tuning applications where articulate note separation and extended-range clarity matter. It's less suited to blues, traditional jazz, or country styles.
How does it compare to other eight-string active pickups?
The 60-8H compares directly to the Seymour Duncan Pegasus 8, DiMarzio Transition 8, and Fishman Fluence Modern 8. Its ceramic magnet and steel pole-piece design emphasizes balanced warmth and sustained clarity across all eight strings.
