What is included in the box?

The EMG 60-8H ships with the pickup itself, EMG Quik-Connect solderless harness system, prewired split-shaft volume and tone controls, output jack, battery clip set, mounting screws, and springs.

Do I need to solder this pickup?

No. The EMG Quik-Connect system allows solderless installation, which simplifies setup significantly when working with 8-string wiring.

What tunings and genres is this pickup designed for?

The 60-8H excels in drop-tuned and extended-range metal, progressive, and studio contexts. It is not recommended for jazz, blues, or folk applications.

How does active power affect performance?

The single 9V battery powers consistent output and controlled dynamics with minimal noise across the full frequency spectrum, eliminating the output inconsistencies that passive designs experience in 8-string applications.

Will this fit my 8-string guitar?

Yes, the 60-8H is built to fit a standard 8-string humbucker rout without modification and measures 4.00 inches wide by 1.00 inch tall by 8.00 inches deep.

EMG 60-8H 8-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Chrome

The EMG 60-8H captures clarity and articulation across the full extended range of eight-string tunings, engineered with active electronics to maintain consistency in drop-tuned and sub-bass registers. This pickup combines ceramic magnets with exposed pole pieces to deliver defined high-end response and controlled lows, translating to tight, intelligible tracks even in dense arrangements where frequency separation matters.

Design & Construction

Built with ceramic magnets and steel pole pieces, the 60-8H fits a standard eight-string humbucker rout without modification. The brushed chrome finish resists fingerprints and corrosion while maintaining a professional appearance in any instrument cavity.

Recording Performance & Signal Path

This is an active pickup powered by a single 9V battery, delivering consistent output and controlled dynamics with minimal noise floor. The active design ensures signal integrity across the full frequency spectrum of an eight-string guitar, eliminating the output inconsistencies and tonal drift that passive designs exhibit when tracking extended-range instruments—critical for session work where punch and definition need to survive the mix.
