What makes the 60-7XH different from other EMG 7-string humbuckers?

The 60-7XH features the brightest attack in EMG's 7-string humbucker lineup, with a close-aperture coil design and ceramic magnets that deliver extended treble response and articulate clarity. This makes it ideal for cutting through dense tunings and high-gain applications where definition across all seven strings is critical.

Does this pickup require any special wiring or power?

Yes, the 60-7XH uses active circuitry and requires a battery to operate. You'll need to ensure your 7-string guitar has a battery cavity or be prepared to install one for proper function.

Will this pickup work in guitars with non-standard body cavities?

The long-shaft housing is designed specifically for deep guitar body cavities and retrofit applications where standard pickups won't fit, making it a flexible choice for custom builds and unconventional instruments.

What genres and playing styles is this pickup best suited for?

The 60-7XH excels in metal, progressive, and extended-range applications where high output, articulate treble, and tight low end are priorities. It's not recommended for jazz or blues, where its aggressive character and bright attack don't align with those tonal aesthetics.

What skill level do I need to install this pickup?

Installation requires intermediate to advanced soldering and wiring knowledge, as active pickups involve battery integration and circuit connections. Professional installation is recommended if you're unfamiliar with guitar electronics.

EMG 60-7XH Long Shaft 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Black Chrome

The EMG 60-7XH captures aggressive, articulate punch across all seven strings with clarity that cuts through dense, low tunings in the mix. Its close-aperture coil design with ceramic magnets produces the brightest attack in EMG's 7-string humbucker lineup, translating to defined transients and tight note separation during tracking and mixing. The long-shaft housing accommodates deeper guitar bodies and retrofit applications where standard pickups fall short, expanding your instrument compatibility for session work.

Recording & Mix Characteristics

Close-aperture coils loaded with ceramic magnets generate high output with extended treble response, delivering the presence needed for modern metal, progressive, and high-gain tracking. The brightness and articulation remain consistent across all seven strings, preventing lower frequencies from dominating the recorded signal and ensuring each note registers distinctly during layering and full-band overdubs.

Construction & Installation

The long-shaft configuration extends deeper into the guitar body cavity, providing flexible mounting options for custom instruments and retrofit scenarios common in project studios. Black chrome finish resists corrosion and maintains consistent appearance across recording sessions, while the active circuitry demands battery power for operation—plan your instrument setup accordingly during long tracking days.
