What does 'long shaft' mean, and why does my 7-string need it?

The long shaft design ensures the pickup sits flush and properly aligned in 7-string humbucker cavities, which have different depth and spacing than standard 6-string routes. Using the correct shaft length prevents fitment issues and ensures consistent magnetic alignment for tone.

Do I need to solder this pickup, or can I install it myself?

No soldering required. The EMG 60-7H uses solderless Quik-Connect wiring and comes with a pre-wired split-shaft volume and tone control set, output jack, battery clip, and mounting hardware—all you need for straightforward installation.

How long does the battery last, and what does the pickup draw?

The 9V battery lasts approximately 3000 hours under typical playing, with an 80 microamp current draw. This translates to roughly four months of daily use before needing a replacement.

What genres and playing styles is this pickup best suited for?

The EMG 60-7H excels in extended-range metal, progressive, and studio sessions where articulate highs and clarity are priorities. It is not optimized for jazz or blues, where warmer, darker tones are typically preferred.

How does the EMG 60-7H compare to other 7-string active pickups?

The 60-7H offers a balanced, articulate character with controlled lows and focused midrange. Comparable alternatives include the Seymour Duncan Sentient/Pegasus 7-String, Fishman Fluence Modern 7-String, and DiMarzio Fusion Edge 7, each with different tonal emphases and price points.

Do I pay sales tax on this order?

We collect sales tax only on orders shipped to California. Orders shipped to any other US state are charged $0 sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. Marketplaces such as eBay, Reverb and Amazon collect sales tax in nearly every state as marketplace facilitators no matter who the seller is, so the same item at the same price costs less bought direct. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included. Some states ask buyers to self-report use tax on out-of-state purchases.

EMG 60-7H Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Chrome

The EMG 60-7H brings the balanced, articulate character of EMG's classic 60 humbucker design to the extended range of a 7-string instrument. This long-shaft variant sits flush in modern 7-string guitar designs while delivering the controlled midrange and smooth response the 60 is known for—ideal for capturing defined lead lines, punchy rhythm takes, and transparent layering in the studio.

Active Electronics & Power

This pickup runs on a single 9V battery with an 80 microamp draw, delivering 3000 hours of battery life under typical use. The solderless construction and included Quik-Connect cable eliminate traditional soldering, making installation and future modifications straightforward without requiring electronics expertise—critical for home-studio setups where quick instrument swaps and reconfiguration matter.

Recording Character & Tone Shaping

Built around ceramic magnets, the 60-7H produces the signature EMG tonal character—articulate highs, controlled lows, and a focused midrange that sits cleanly in dense mixes without overshadowing adjacent instruments. The brushed chrome finish offers a refined aesthetic, while the long shaft design ensures proper fitment in 7-string humbucker cavities and consistent output across all strings for balanced tracking and overdubs.
