What makes the EMG 60-7H different from passive pickups for 7-string guitars?

The EMG 60-7H is an active pickup, meaning it uses a built-in preamp powered by a 9V battery to deliver high output (3.0V peak) and noise rejection (-89 dBV floor) without relying on magnet strength alone. Active design provides controlled aggression, defined highs, and tight low-end articulation—crucial for extended-range tunings and high-gain settings where clarity and consistency matter.

Does this pickup include everything I need to install it?

Yes. The package includes a Quik-Connect cable, prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, mounting screws, and springs. Installation is straightforward; no additional parts are required.

How long does the battery last?

The 9V battery provides approximately 3000 hours of playing time (about 4 months of daily use), with a current draw of only 80 microamps. The included battery clip set makes replacement quick and easy.

What genres and tuning styles suit this pickup?

The EMG 60-7H is designed for metal, djent, hard rock, progressive, and drop-tuning applications where tight low-end response, high output, and noise-free performance are priorities. It is not optimized for jazz, blues, or folk styles that rely on dynamic touch sensitivity and vintage warmth.

Will the long shaft fit my 7-string guitar?

The long shaft configuration is designed for standard 7-string guitar cavities. Confirm your guitar uses a standard humbucker cavity; if you are unsure, check your instrument's specifications or consult the manufacturer.

EMG 60-7H Long Shaft 7-String Active Humbucker Pickup in Black

The EMG 60-7H is a high-output active humbucker engineered for 7-string instruments, delivering controlled aggression without sacrificing clarity across extended lower frequencies. Long shaft construction accommodates standard 7-string guitar cavities with reliable, noise-free performance. This pickup excels in recording sessions and live tracking where tight articulation, consistent output, and predictable behavior across heavy material are essential to capturing professional results.

Tone & Output Character

The ceramic magnet design and close aperture coils produce a 3.0V peak output with 1.0V RMS, generating authoritative midrange presence and defined highs that cut through dense mixes. A 2.95 kHz resonant frequency and -89 dBV output noise floor ensure clarity even at high gain settings, while the 10 kohm output impedance integrates cleanly with any preamp or amplifier without tonal coloration.

Power & Practicality

Active operation draws only 80 microamps @ 9V, yielding extended battery life of approximately 3000 hours per charge—ideal for studio sessions and touring musicians who need uninterrupted reliability. The included battery clip set, Quik-Connect cable, prewired split shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, and mounting hardware streamline installation and minimize downtime in the studio.
