Description
EMG 58 Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Black Chrome
The EMG 58 delivers a balanced, articulate voice that sits cleanly in a mix without sacrificing definition or punch. The long shaft configuration accommodates standard guitar cavities, while the brushed black chrome finish offers a refined aesthetic that complements modern and vintage instruments alike. This active humbucker excels in rock, metal, and contemporary styles where clarity and controlled output matter equally for session tracking and mix compatibility.
Electronics & Performance
Built on Alnico magnet construction with dual steel bars, the 58 generates a midrange-focused tone with reduced noise typical of EMG's active designs—ideal for layering guitars without phase issues or frequency masking. The low impedance architecture preserves articulation and note definition even at high gain, ensuring consistent transient capture and responsive dynamics that translate accurately through recording chains and mixing.
Installation & Integration
The solderless installation system includes pre-wired 25K volume and tone potentiometers, battery bus, stereo output jack, and integrated pickup in/out bus—allowing fast setup and teardown between recording sessions without soldering expertise. Low power consumption keeps battery life extended, reducing maintenance frequency during long studio sessions and multiday recording blocks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's included in the box?
The EMG 58 ships with the pickup, solderless installation system, pre-wired 25K volume and tone potentiometers, battery bus, stereo output jack, and integrated pickup in/out bus. You won't need to source additional wiring components or pots.
Will this fit my guitar?
The long shaft configuration is designed to fit standard guitar cavities. If your instrument has a standard humbucker routing, the 58 will install cleanly.
How does the EMG 58 compare to the EMG 81?
The 58 delivers a more balanced, articulate voice with stronger midrange presence, while the 81 is brighter and more aggressive. Both are active designs with low noise; choose the 58 if you want clarity and controlled output, or the 81 if you prefer extra brightness and attack.
Is this pickup good for jazz or blues?
No—the EMG 58 is optimized for rock, metal, and hard rock where articulation and controlled high-gain response are priorities. Jazz and blues players typically benefit from passive pickups or designs with warmer, more open midrange character.
How long will the battery last?
The EMG 58 features low power consumption, which extends battery life significantly and reduces maintenance frequency during regular use. Actual lifespan depends on playing hours and output jack engagement.
