Description
EMG 57 Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Gold
The EMG 57 is a bridge-position active humbucker engineered to capture articulate, punchy midrange response with controlled output that sits clearly in dense mixes. This gold-finished unit delivers the clarity and definition essential for modern recording and mixing, whether tracking high-gain tones or capturing push-and-pull clean articulation. The active electronics provide consistent output and superior noise rejection across all playing dynamics, critical for session work where signal integrity matters throughout the signal chain.
Tone & Output Characteristics
With a resonant frequency of 2.11 kHz and output voltage of 3.00V string / 4.50V strum, the 57 produces a bright, focused character that emphasizes note definition over raw volume. The -100 dB output noise floor ensures clean operation even when running through long cable paths to your interface or mixer, while 10 Kohm output impedance maintains clarity when paired with multiple effects units or studio patching scenarios.
Active Electronics & Installation
This active design runs on 27V DC power and draws just 160 microamps at 9V, yielding approximately 1500 hours of battery life per 9V cell—practical endurance for extended tracking sessions. The Quik-Connect solderless installation system eliminates solder joints at the pickup terminals, reducing installation time and potential for cold connections while maintaining rock-solid electrical integrity for reliable studio performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the EMG 57 and other active humbuckers?
The 57 is tuned for articulate midrange clarity and focused punch rather than raw output volume. Its 2.11 kHz resonant frequency and 3.00V / 4.50V output emphasize note definition and cut, making it better suited for modern high-gain styles than vintage-voiced alternatives like the Seymour Duncan JB Jr or Fishman Fluence Modern.
How long does a 9V battery last in this pickup?
The EMG 57 draws only 160 microamps at 9V, delivering approximately 1500 hours (roughly 2 months of moderate daily use) per battery. You'll get consistent tone and output throughout that window with no degradation.
Is soldering required to install this pickup?
No. The EMG 57 includes the Quik-Connect solderless installation system, which eliminates solder joints at the pickup terminals and reduces installation time while maintaining rock-solid electrical integrity.
Will this pickup work with long cable runs and effects chains?
Yes. The 10 Kohm output impedance and −100 dB noise floor are specifically engineered to maintain clarity when paired with long cables or multiple effects units, ensuring your tone stays focused and noise-free regardless of your signal chain length.
What genres and playing styles is the 57 best for?
The EMG 57 excels in metal, hard rock, progressive, and studio high-gain contexts where articulate, punchy midrange and low noise are priorities. It is not recommended for folk, jazz, or blues playing styles that benefit from warmer, more vintage-voiced pickups.
Do I pay sales tax on this order?
Sales tax is collected only on orders shipped to California; orders shipped to any other US state are not charged sales tax at checkout when you buy direct from our website. At a typical 7% rate that is an estimated $10 less at checkout than the same listed price on a marketplace, which collects sales tax as the facilitator in most states. Buyers remain responsible for any use tax their state applies. Free US shipping and 30-day returns are included.
