Description
EMG 57-8H Active Humbucker Pickup in Brushed Black Chrome
The EMG 57-8H is a bridge-position humbucker engineered for 8-string electrics, delivering the focused aggression and articulate midrange that define EMG's house tone. The brushed black chrome finish maintains a professional aesthetic while the compact footprint integrates seamlessly into modern extended-range instrument designs. This pickup captures heavy riffs with clarity, precision lead work with definition, and translates studio recordings with consistency and punch.
Recording Tone & Electronics
Active circuitry and Alnico V magnets paired with steel pole pieces generate a punchy, defined output with natural sustain and minimal noise floor. The bridge voicing emphasizes upper-midrange articulation and treble definition, making individual string attacks stand out even in dense tunings and high-gain contexts—critical for capturing tight, articulate takes in the mix.
Studio Integration & Installation
The solderless installation system eliminates traditional wiring complexity, allowing quick swaps and modifications without specialized tools or permanent modifications to the instrument. This streamlines session prep and lets engineers dial in the right tone fast. Compact mounting hardware suits both new 8-string designs and retrofit applications on compatible guitars.

Frequently Asked Questions
What tunings and genres is this pickup designed for?
The 57-8H excels in metal, djent, drop tunings, and studio recording on 8-string guitars. It's engineered to maintain clarity and articulation even in extended-range, high-gain contexts, and is not optimized for jazz, blues, or folk applications.
How does solderless installation work, and do I need special tools?
The solderless system eliminates traditional wiring, allowing quick swaps and modifications without tools or permanent modifications to your instrument. This makes it ideal for fast retrofits or experimentation on compatible 8-string guitars.
Will this pickup work on my current 8-string guitar?
The 57-8H is compatible with standard 8-string humbucker bridge cavities and suits both new designs and retrofit applications. Check that your guitar has a standard 8-string humbucker cavity before purchasing.
What makes this active pickup different from passive humbuckers?
Active circuitry with Alnico V magnets and steel pole pieces deliver high-output clarity, punchy midrange articulation, and a low noise floor compared to passive designs. The bridge voicing emphasizes upper-midrange definition and treble, making individual string attacks stand out in dense tunings and high-gain recording.
Is this suitable for both studio recording and live gigging?
Yes. The pickup delivers consistent, professional-grade performance across extended tuning ranges and is engineered for both studio precision tracking and reliable live-sound reproduction on extended-range instruments.
