Description
EMG 57-7H Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup in Chrome
The EMG 57-7H captures articulate, punchy midrange character with tight low-end response essential for recording modern 7-string material. This active humbucker balances clarity and aggression, tracking well in high-gain sessions while maintaining definition across complex chord voicings and layered arrangements. The brushed chrome finish provides visual consistency and professional appearance in any recording setup.
Active Electronics & Recording Output
Active circuitry powered by two 9V batteries in series (27V DC total) ensures consistent output and low impedance signal transmission into your interface or preamp with approximately 1500 hours of battery life per set. Output measures 3.00V single string and 4.50V strum, delivering responsive dynamics without the noise floor or impedance matching issues typical of passive designs—critical for clean tracking and mix-ready recordings.
Integration & System Components
The solderless installation system streamlines guitar prep and integration into your session workflow—all necessary components arrive ready to wire in. The package includes a 25k volume pot, 25k tone pot, battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus, mounting hardware, springs, and pickup cable for complete system functionality and fast instrument changeovers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes an active pickup different from a passive one?
Active pickups like the 57-7H use onboard electronics powered by 27V DC (two 9V batteries in series) to deliver lower impedance output, higher signal strength (3.00V single string, 4.50V strum), and a noise floor far lower than passive designs. You get consistent tone and responsiveness without the signal loss typical of older passive setups.
Is this pickup suitable for blues or jazz?
No; the 57-7H is voiced specifically for metal, progressive, djent, and extended-range applications. Its aggressive midrange clarity and tight low end are optimized for high-gain contexts and may not deliver the warmth and subtlety blues and jazz players seek.
What's included, and how hard is installation?
The package includes a 25k volume pot, 25k tone pot, battery bus, stereo output jack, two-pickup in/out bus, mounting hardware, springs, and pickup cable. The solderless installation system eliminates complex wiring, so integration is straightforward even for players with minimal electronics experience.
How long do the batteries last?
You'll get approximately 1500 hours of play time per set of two 9V batteries. That's roughly 40-50 hours per month for an active player, so fresh batteries are a minor ongoing cost for the consistent output and noise floor active electronics provide.
Is this a bridge or neck position pickup?
The 57-7H is designed for bridge position on 7-string guitars. Its punchy midrange and tight low end are tuned to handle the aggression and clarity demands of a bridge pickup in modern extended-range instruments.
