Description
EMG 57/66 TW Long Shaft Active Humbucker Pickup Set in Black Chrome
The EMG 57/66 TW is a dual-mode active humbucker set engineered to capture thick, articulate bridge tones and balanced neck response in the studio and on recordings. The long shaft design integrates cleanly into standard guitar cavities, while the black chrome finish matches contemporary hardware aesthetics. This set delivers the signature EMG clarity with the added dimension of selectable single-coil and dual-coil voicings, eliminating the need for separate pickups across different session requirements.
Recording Tone & Active Circuitry
Built on EMG's proprietary three-coil architecture, these pickups achieve dual-mode switching through a push-pull potentiometer on each unit, letting you dial between full humbucking warmth for thick rhythm tracks and articulate single-coil attack for cutting lead lines. The 57 bridge combines Alnico and ceramic magnets for punch and definition that cuts through dense mixes, while the 66 neck pairs Alnico with steel for balanced midrange response that sits well alongside rhythm instruments. A 10K DC resistance rating and active circuitry ensure tight articulation, fast transient response, and consistent output across the full frequency spectrum—essential for transparent tracking and layering.
Installation & Solderless Wiring
The solderless wiring harness and included push-pull potentiometers eliminate traditional soldering requirements, making installation straightforward and reducing downtime between session setups. Each pickup features a covered design that shields against electromagnetic interference while maintaining aesthetic consistency. The integrated five-wire plus ground and battery configuration connects directly to the supplied harness, with two standard tone controls completing the control scheme for quick mid-session adjustments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does dual-mode switching do, and how does it work?
Each pickup includes a push-pull potentiometer that toggles between full humbucking mode and articulate single-coil mode, letting you access two distinct voicings without changing pickups or soldering. The 57 bridge combines Alnico and ceramic magnets for punch and definition, while the 66 neck pairs Alnico with steel for balanced midrange response across both modes.
Do I need to solder these in, or is installation beginner-friendly?
The set includes a solderless wiring harness and pre-installed push-pull potentiometers, so no soldering is required—the five-wire plus ground and battery configuration connects directly to the supplied harness. Installation is straightforward for experienced techs and first-timers alike, fitting any standard guitar cavity via the long-shaft design.
What genres and playing styles are these pickups best for?
These pickups excel in metal, hard rock, progressive, studio sessions, and touring applications. They are not recommended for jazz, folk, or country, as their high output, tight articulation, and fast transient response are engineered specifically for heavier and more articulate genres.
Are these pickups active, and what does that mean for tone and reliability?
Yes, active circuitry powers these pickups for tight articulation, high output, and consistent response across the full frequency spectrum. Active design means you'll get predictable, punchy tone night after night in a touring rig or session after session in the studio.
What is the long-shaft design, and will it fit my guitar?
The long-shaft format is engineered to integrate cleanly into standard guitar cavities, fitting most instruments without modification. The covered humbucker construction also shields against electromagnetic interference while keeping aesthetics consistent with contemporary hardware.
