Frequently Asked Questions
What does the ZC-7 do and what systems is it compatible with?
The ZC-7 is a programmable push-to-talk page assignment controller designed for dbx ZonePRO devices. It provides logic control for zone source selection, volume, muting, program or scene selection, and fire-safety muting via analog DC voltage commands over CAT5 cabling.
How far can I run the cable from my ZonePRO processor to the ZC-7?
With parallel wiring using the ZC-BOB adapter and up to six Zone Controllers, you can run CAT5 or CAT5E cable up to 1000 feet. For three controllers in series, maximum distance is 600 feet; for six in series, 300 feet. Cable must be rated VW-1 or higher with 28.6 Ohm/1000 ft nominal DC resistance.
How is the ZC-7 addressed and configured?
The ZC-7 uses DIP switches to allow identification and connection to the ZonePRO processor via standard RJ-45 connectors on CAT5 cable. This switch-based addressing makes setup straightforward for contractors and system integrators.
Is this suitable for home studio or personal use?
No; the ZC-7 is designed for professional install audio, conference systems, and live-sound reinforcement environments. It is not intended for home studio or personal practice applications.
What cables and connectors does the ZC-7 use?
The ZC-7 features two RJ-45 connectors and connects via readily available CAT5 or CAT5E cable with universally accepted RJ-45 connectors, making field replacement and troubleshooting simple.
