Description
Overview
The 4-channel Di4 is designed to be used as a standard tool for many audio applications. Offering four channels, the Di4 easily solves the problem of converting unbalanced signals into balanced output suitable for use with mixers, PAs, recording consoles and more. The Di4 also functions as multi-channel stereo line mixer. This feature allows you to connect all yourk ω yboards, samplers and modules into just one rack unit on stage and supply independent XLR balanced outputs to the stage box for a front of house engineer and set your own independent mix for stage monitoring. The Di4 also offers a headphone output.
More Details
Using the dbx Di4 as a DI Box:
Connect the signal you would like to convert from unbalanced to balanced to the Di4 via a 1/4-inch unbalanced jack to one of the channel inputs on the front panel of the unit. Connect an XLR balanced cable to the corresponding channel output on the rear of the Di4 and connect to your chosen destination. If the input signal strength is too high you can depress the 20dB pad. If there is an ground (earth) loop hum you can remove by depressing the earth lift switch.
Using the dbx Di4 as a Line Mixer:
You can mix volume and pan of all input signals to a single stereo pair of RCA connections on the rear of the Di4. This enables use of the unit as a fully functional line mixer. Just connect the RCA stereo master outputs on the rear to your chosen destination and adjust the individual volume and pan controls for each individual channel on the front of the Di4 to suit your needs.

The dbx DI4 offers transparent, low-distortion conversion of unbalanced studio sources—synths, drum machines, samplers—into balanced lines suitable for recording consoles and audio interfaces. Its dual role as both DI and stereo line mixer lets you sum and balance multiple keyboard or module outputs into a single stereo pair before tracking, and the headphone output lets you monitor your mix independently during overdubs. Minimal THD and crosstalk keep your recordings clean and phase-coherent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the DI4 to mix multiple keyboards and samplers together?
Yes. The DI4 functions as a 4-channel line mixer with individual volume and pan controls on the front panel; mix all four inputs to a stereo RCA pair on the back, letting you consolidate multiple sources into a single balanced output to your mixer or interface.
What if my input signal is too hot or I'm getting ground hum?
The DI4 includes a 20dB pad switch on each channel to handle hot signals and an earth-lift switch to eliminate ground-loop hum, so you can adapt to problem venues or noisy signal chains without degradation.
What connectors does the DI4 have?
Inputs are 1/4-inch unbalanced jacks; XLR balanced outputs are on the rear for each channel, a stereo RCA pair for the line-mixer sum, and a 1/4-inch headphone jack for monitoring.
Is the DI4 suitable for touring and live use?
Yes. At 3.85 lbs and 1U rack depth, it's compact and road-tough; low noise floor (0.0008% THD+Noise typical), transparent tone, and rugged construction make it ideal for gigging musicians and touring engineers.
Can I monitor independently while feeding a separate front-of-house mix?
Yes. The DI4 lets you set independent mixes via its four channel faders and pan controls—send the stereo RCA outputs to your monitor console and the individual XLR outputs to the main PA, each with its own balance.
