Frequently asked questions
What is the practical difference between 7 and 9 strings?
The 9-string adds two additional lower strings beyond the standard 7-string, extending range into extreme drop and sub-bass frequencies. A 7-string is more conventional, easier to find strings for, and faster to navigate, while the 9-string demands more finger strength and is purpose-built for extreme metal.
Are these guitars good for progressive metal?
Yes, both suit progressive metal. The Sunset-7 is explicitly listed for progressive work and its speed-optimized neck favors technical passages. The Damien Platinum-9 excels in progressive contexts that demand sub-harmonic weight and extended lower ranges, but its wider string spacing requires more deliberate technique.
How do the electronics differ?
The Damien uses active EMG 909 pickups powered by a 9-volt battery, delivering consistent high-output gain-friendly tones. The Sunset-7 uses passive Schecter USA humbuckers with more organic clean articulation and natural distortion saturation—better for dynamic playing and less tone-shaping overhead.
Which is better for touring?
The Sunset-7 Extreme is purpose-listed for touring and includes locking tuning mechanics and a bridge engineered for stability during heavy use. The Damien Platinum-9 is road-capable but more specialized; parts and string availability may be easier for the 7-string in most venues.
